In the six years since her bitter and angry divorce, Bess Curran has built a successful, independent life in the St. Croix riverside town of Stillwater, Minnesota. But unforeseen circumstances reunite her with Michael, her ex-husband, when Lisa, her 21-year-old daughter, announces she is pregnant and plans to marry.
As Lisa's antagonistic parents try to absorb this news, she announces her intention to wear her mother's wedding dress and ask her parents to walk her down the aisle - together. Suddenly the adversarial couple finds themselves forced to consider whether 16 years of love can be erased by a legal decree and if sometimes, when the times change, people don't change with them.
