AS SWEET AS ICE TEA IN THE SUMMER

If you have not read the first book, "Broken," then I suggest you back up and start reading that book first as you will be lost since "Broken Dreams" follows, and starts where "Broken" ended. It has been a while since I read Broken and I really wish I would have listened to it again before venturing into this one. However, after a while I was right on board with the characters & where all the drama had left off.

First of all, be prepared for a fabulous audiobook. Shirl Rae is excellent. She is one of my favorite female narrators. I especially love the southern accent she provided for Reed. And, NELSON Hobbs….OMG…HOT-SOUTHERN-MAN-VOICE-ALERT. What a gorgeous voice Nelson has! I need to find more audiobooks he performs in! The combination of both Shirl and Nelson made this one sumptuous listen!

As far as the story is concerned, the love development between Reed and Courtney is low on the angst and high on the fun and romance. In fact, this is what I consider an indulgence for the helpless romantic. Reed and Courtney do face personal issues and conflicts brought on by outside sources, however, they are resolved or addressed either quickly or within their proper timing in the plot development. But, the romance between Reed and Courtney is fun, sexy, cute and continuous. The best part is that if you liked Layton and Whitely from "Broken," then you will adore this book because not only does it explore Reed & Courtney's love story, but simultaneously gives you more of Layton and Whitely which is awesome! What a perfect combination for two best friends from NYC, Whitely and Courtney, to fall in love with their gorgeous southern gentlemen, Layton and Reed. This is a sweet romance that takes readers into the beautiful landscape of the Texan countryside, to the range riding horses, to the vibe of dancing in hot night clubs, and two-stepping in town circles.

I recommend this listen/read when readers need a break from more ansty, drama-injected reads. It is all smooth sailing and as Reed & Courtney would put it….it passes the "swoon-worthy" test.

Good Story

I enjoyed this book and the characters. I did feel there was a little more drama than needed to make the story a really good one.

I liked getting Reed's story and seeing him get his HEA. And Courtney and him are great together.

The audio was good and easy to listen to. The narrators did a great job with the emotions and storyline on this one.

Series continues to be boring &

predictable, The "plot' was the same as the first book. Courtney & Reed were both whiney & tedious. I didn't get the merry-go-round with the "jokes/teasing". It was overblown & mean spirited. The narrators really do NOT add to the sophomoric writing. The narrators' performance was a snooze fest. Only consolation (and not much of one) is that I didn't pay full price or have to use a credit, purchased the books while on sale. Will listen to the next book & maybe there will be improvement.

It’s ok

So I’ve read a few of the reviews and I have to agree with the comments. First off I feel like the female narrator wasn’t the best. Her voice got kind of irritating. Nelson Hobbs did fine, the country accent helped bring Reed to life.
But overall I have to say the story was just so….. idk over the top I guess? Having a sexual abuse survivor all of a sudden become almost like a sex addict? It was a little much? Omg I can’t wait another second we have to do it now? Like everywhere? Very over the top. Also Reed was kind of portrayed like a wimp, how many times does he cry in the book? And he thinks he isn’t good enough and so he pushes her away, and then he cries… it was just a lot. And it was also almost a carbon copy of the first book with Whitley and Layton. Just she was a domestic abuse survivor and he was broken hearted because of losing his family… basically same situation. Ex comes looking for him and wants to reunite in both, both girls get attacked and men come to the rescue… so many coincidences.

Sex, crying and Instalove to the extreme!

Well at least there was a bit less winking but the cheese factor is way off the charts. I hate you, I love you, you are my world,,, all in a few weeks. I fell in love with you the first second we met... Ugh!

The H spent most of his time crying and more than half of the book was filler. You could skip entire chapters and not miss anything. I like good sex, oops, romantic scenes in books but there are so many, including after getting home from the hospital after delivering a baby, you will skip forward. My guesstimate is that 40-50% of the story are se... romantic scenes!

After reading some reviews by a few of my favorite reviewers, I will skip this author in the future. Based on many of the 4 and 5 star reviews, she has a good following and my tastes are not in her target market.

Terrible!!!

Can not believe I actually finished this book. The narrators were fine, for the crap they had to read. The female lead characters are not like able. They are crass, inappropriate, trashy, and stupid. The men are sappy, overly emotional, and not believable. The rape is finally revealed to the family and they decide to go play laser tag! What??? Soooooo many stupid sex scenes. Every 5 min was a sex scene. Worst book ever!!!!

Broken Dreams

I never thought I’d say this but there was A LOT of sexy times in this story. I get that they were newlyweds but it was definitely something that was a little too much. Besides that, I enjoyed this story.
Nelson Hobbs was spectacular, Shirl Rae was a good narrator, I didn’t like hearing her “moan”, I cringed each time she “cried out”. I’m sorry 😐. Overall this was enjoyable.
