Publisher's summary

Amelia grew up in a world of half-truths. She knows she's an Elder, but has no idea what that means. Her father reminds her daily that she must maintain control, but he refuses to explain why. Even worse, she's betrothed to the prince of the Immortals and doesn't even know his name.

Finally breaking free to live a few normal years at a community college, the last thing Amelia expects is to find her best friend in a cheeky southern girl, or fall for a self-assured human who sees her for who she is, not what she will become.

As she learns more about herself, Amelia realizes the line between love and duty is a thin one. As her power continues to increase exponentially and her questions are slowly answered, Amelia must make the ultimate choice. The question is, will her head win the battle, or her heart?

Well worth your time.

Any additional comments?

Book:

Stormy Smith has created a marvelous story. Bound by Duty is a tale full of magic, heart break, love, and mystery. When I started reading I was quickly drawn in and found it hard to put it down. I really like the characters, some more than others and found myself feeling right along with them. I could especially feel the pain of Amelia and Aidan. They have both been through so much and there is so much more to come. I did enjoy the little quips at times between the characters that would help lighten the mood and I just love Amelia’s best friend. She is one of those characters that just brings a smile to my face. Amelia does seem to get herself into some pretty bad predicaments throughout the story. Then I got left on a cliffhanger that left everything so far up in the air that anything could happen next. Where will this journey lead us? It promises to be quite an adventure of love and sacrifice.

Audio Book:

Overall the narration by Kristin James is good and easy to listen to. She helped bring Stormy Smith’s book to life. I love that she reads with emotion in her words. I do feel that she kept her voice too soft which made it harder to hear at times and she needs a little work on accents but other than that she did a great job. I did thoroughly enjoy listening to Bound by Duty.

Very good story with a so-so narrator!

l very much enjoyed the story but wish they could have chosen a better narrator. She waffled between two stars and three. Most of the time she was okay, but it was obvious that she was not a seasoned professional or at the very least was thoroughly familiar with the story. I could have done a better job myself. Most of her male voices sounded like the same person, she frequently slipped into her own voice when a male character was speaking or a male voice when Amelia or Bethany was speaking.

I will definitely be buying the sequel to see what happens next, but I hope they choose someone more seasoned a professional to narrate the next book.

Rinse and repeat

Any additional comments?

First book in the Bound series.

The book starts well but gets bogged down with the protagonist doing the same thing over and over again. I might have liked it more if she had either been aware of this or had learned a little more about herself each time. Also, the plot twist near the end was poorly executed as was the ending which is a cliff hanger.

I liked Bethany better than the protagonist. It must be her southern charm.

So now I have to wait, what is going to seem like an eternity I'm sure, for the next book! Hurry up, Stormy!!! I need the next one, like tomorrow!

Not bad but not great

This book has great potential but it was very predictable and lacked the climax that I was hoping for. I'm debating whether to continue with the series because again it has potential but I'm also wondering if it would worth the cost....we shall see.. The narrator did a good job, she kind of reminds me of Kate Rudd who in my opinion is a great narrator.

A book with no common sense.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

no

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me confused. I just find it hard to believe that a young adult would make every bad choice they could that often. Its like sticking your hand in the fire and then wonder why you got burnt.

Any additional comments?

The book started out fine the turned into a book with no common sense. Or maybe I am wrong, but the main protagonist just spends the hole book making all of the wrong decisions.
I just don't think a 18 year old would be acting like a 8 year old. Not to mention the book is highly predictable. I new what was going to happen way before it happened. The book played like a bad horror movie.
