Publisher's summary

Bastian had to have been the most handsome man that Katherine had ever met. It really was unfortunate that he was also the most stubborn, controlling, downright infuriating jackass she'd ever known as well. Oh, and there was the fact that he was a werewolf - a werewolf who has bitten her.

Sixteen-year-old Katherine Mayes had never believed in mythological creatures like werewolves or mermaids - certainly not those sparkly vampires that her friend Abby was obsessed with. Even when she's bitten by a massive animal after a reckless night of teenage adventure and her body begins to change in mystifying ways, she can't force herself to believe in what she's convinced is impossible. Little does she realize, she's been infected with a disease a little more permanent than the rabies she feels fortunate to have not contracted - lycanthropy.

Her fierce denial is soundly shattered, however, when she is simultaneously saved and kidnapped by Bastian and his pack. Forced to leave small-town Iowa behind and adjust to their way of life in a hidden society, Katherine must also deal with fighting the pull she feels towards the man - or wolf, rather - who has bitten her and disrupted her life so completely.

I'm still a unsure about this book.

The story line is interesting and the book is well written, but the characters are unremarkable and difficult to relate to. Worth a try, but probably not the right book for me.

Very Adolescent Story Line

The story line was probably interesting for middle school ages but it was predictable and very tame for adults. I found the overuse of adjectives very annoying and would no recommend it.

Illogical behavior

It is not often that I write reviews but I got so frustrated whilst listening to this book, that I had to take some time to rant, I mean explain my annoyance. There isn't much I can say without spoilers but I will try. The actions of the female protagonist was the most illogical, irrational, reckless behavior that I have had the displeasure of reading/listening about. Her actions made her come off as unintelligent and insipid. I am 40% through this book and I'm not sure if i can continue.

I applaud the narrator

Ok maybe I have outgrown YA or maybe this is just poorly written. Third person writing is tricky and not well down here. Identifying character by hair color and size is ridiculous and annoying. Katherine is so immature and volatile in personality it because tedious. The girl can't see the forest through the trees and instead of coming off as a strong young lady she just seems stupid. Denial and revolt seems to be her only solutions so this is where I think that I outgrew YA because I just can't relate to this TSTL heroine. The whole pack and Bastien are not well developed and the secrets they keep to make this story a story are just silly. As a writer she needs to come up with a stronger storyline that doesn't make all your character unlikeable.

Nope

Will nit finish. When it gets to the part where he tells her he has to mark her by peeing on her that was the last disgusting straw!
The complete lack of understanding for the main character from the pack & the alpha behavior unnecessarily asserting itself where there should b compassion & understanding yet consistently putting up with disgustingly hateful behavior from Marcus the beta is ridiculous. Without these large issues the story isn't that bad, but these r big issues to me. Girls definitely shouldn't think this type of behavior is acceptable much less desirable.

I’m in love!!!!

I really like this book and think that the romance in it is really cute. I also like the part where she shifts at the full moon. Katherine Mayes is really feisty and I love that about her I also like how there’s a all girl pack!!!!Girl Power!!!!!

Main character might be mentally ill

When in an emergency who takes the time to clean up. He parents have precious moments of life left to be saved but she’s worried about the blood on her shirt. I could not continue to read listening to main character making such decisions.

PULLING MY HAIR OUT!

Ok.. I must admit that I read all of the reviews of this book, but I wanted to form my own opinion. BIG MISTAKE. I will also admit that I've never read a book from this author, and I probably wont again. I always give my honest opinion, and I base my opinion on my own feelings, and not on those of others, but I will agree with the reviews that were 1 or 2 stars.

I love reading books were the hero, or heroine over comes great odds, but this book really tested my patience. I cant even blame the unrealistic stupidity on Catherine's age of 16...because I know some 16 year olds that would never be as stupid as she was!!

She comes home to find her father on the floor bleeding, her "pretend" boyfriend crushed underneath rubble and her mother missing. Two masked men are in the house trying to attack and kill her, after theyve attacked and possibly killed her family. A random, yet familiar guy just bursts in to rescue her, tells her to run...and stays to fight off these two men on her behalf.

One guy gets away to attack her in the garage...she gets away, jumps in her car and goes on a high speed chase on the highway and back roads of her town for 2 or 3 hours...BUT NEVER DRIVES TO THE POLICE STATION??!! WHO DOES THAT?!

She gets lost, and runs out of gas, only to be tracked down and saved again by the same guy..who she discovers bit her in wolf form, and has turned her into a wolf?! Now shes a member of a pack of 5. Said pack takes her to breakfast after kidnapping her and driving to Canada. At NO POINT does she try to get help from the waitress, or later on after she escapes...the next door neighbor of her sister, whose house she drove 12 hours to get to! Yet again...PASSING BY MULTIPLE POLICE STATIONS!!!

I found myself so aggravated that by the 8th chapter...when she does NOT ask her sister's neighbor for help, but falls asleep in her sister's driveway while in the SUV that she stole from her newly found wolf pack...I was ready to stop the book, and just write this review.

I downloaded the other 2 books in the series, but I think I'll return them all!! If they are as idiotic as this 1st one is...I wont bother listening!!! Its a few hours of my life that I'll never get back!!!

Good Story Line - Bad Narration

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Maybe. The plot is there, but I'm having a hard time getting past the narrators tone to actually become absorbed into the story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Noelle Marie? Why or why not?

I don't think I would have actually changed the story. Maybe I would stop describing characters by their hair color so much and actually use their names. "The blond talked to the brunette...the red head laughed at the blond...etc" I didn't care for that so much.

How could the performance have been better?

At times, the narrator sounds just like the 'text to talk' feature off the computer. I also would have preferred her to use a lighter tone for the 16 year old main character instead of the deeper tone that she uses. She also falls into a pattern of speech that my ears get stuck on. I find myself listening to the way she is speaking, rather than listening to the story. I do like the supporting character voices most of the time. I just feel like some points of the story require more inflection. For instance, when Catherine is jogging and putting on music...her tone keeps the low, sometimes whispered, almost exasperated tone. When it should have been lighter and a bit more excitable.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Based off of the narration, I'm not sure that I was captured enough to want to see this in the theater. However, because the plot line seems like it would be better if either I read it myself or saw it on screen, I might rent the DVD.

the girl needs to grow a backbone

Kathryn never opens her mouth to tell anyone off or the truth when they stop for food she worries what people would think if she said she was kidnapped by people who thought they were werewolves well just say I've been kidnapped stand up and open your mouth when your in trouble if she had she would have found out her parents were still alive and could have gone home and not put up with such a bully as the so called Alpha.
