I've spent the last year paralyzed by grief and guilt.
I need a way out, but there's nothing I can do.
The man in my ICU says he's innocent.
He says he needs me.
He even says he's in love with me.
They say he's a dangerous man. That he's mixed up with the mob.
I want to believe him.
But is that only because I want him?

This just didn't work for me.
I thought I needed to break away from the Science Fiction, Post Apocalyptic, Adventure, and True Crime formats, and give something else on Audible a try. When the offer of a free copy in exchange for an honest review came up for this book I thought "yeah... I'll give it a listen." But I really didn't enjoy it at all. I had to stop long before the end of the book. I feel bad about that, but honestly... there was just too much about it that I didn't enjoy. I think the fact that the story is a first person narrative.... and some guy is narrating was the first thing that struck the wrong chord with me. It took me a while to figure out that the character speaking was a woman, and not some gay guy. It was really disconcerting. I thought "WTF? I'm listening to a gay romance novel? That's not what I'm looking for in a million years"When I finally understood that a male narrator was reading a woman's story, from that woman's perspective, I was able to listen for a while longer. But the writing was getting in the way. I was listening to dialogue while my mind was screaming "Real people don't talk this way" Couple that with narration that sounded like some guy reading words off of a page, rather than telling me a story, and I quickly lost any interest.
He wasn't telling me a story... he was reading words.
I really don't enjoy having to write a review for a book I didn't enjoy. I try very carefully to only accept books I honestly believe I will enjoy. I gave this one a shot, to try and branch out into a different genre. Unfortunately I pulled the wrong work off the digital shelf.
The narration lacked emotion. Sometimes I would get confused on which character he was reading at the moment or what was happening in the book at the moment.
Bad Patient was a mobster story. I was hooked on the story waiting to see how it could possibly work out. I liked how the story built even though most of it was in the hospital but it had my intrigued.
Jess and Brody were two unlikely people to be together. Jess had a stable job as a nurse in the ICU and Brody was the mysterious patient brought in with gun shot wounds and handcuffed to the hospital bed. While it can be slightly unbelievable that is the joy of books,it doesn't need to be completely realistic all the time.
