All Ellie wants is to have a normal life. She pictures a white picket fence, a stable and loyal husband, and eventually a couple of kids. She doesn’t date just anybody. She has relationships with guys like Ward Cleaver. Her best friend Spencer, on the other hand, is famous for being quite the opposite. That’s why they’ll always be "just friends". But maybe when it comes to love, what looks good on paper just isn't good enough....
Spencer knows what Ellie wants for herself. In fact, he thinks she deserves every bit of it. She sure as hell deserves more than what he can offer her. But as he gets ready to leave for Marine Corps Recruit Training, he starts to think about exactly what he’ll be leaving behind. As the weeks of training drag on, he can't help but think that if it weren't for the shadows of his past, he would make her his future.

Accurate, romantic, exciting
I love when spencer amd ellie finally figure out they are meant to be. I loved reading it progress in the book but hearing it outloud was a better experience.
My favorite scenes are of spencers family day and graduation day. It just brought back all the memories of my experience with my husband.
I wish i had had the time, with a family to take care of it is just hard to sit there and listen. But i read it during car rides or doing chores.
Loved this book!
I usually like the print versions better, but this book had chapters that alternated between Ellie's POV and Spencer's POV -- and it had a female reading Ellie's POV and a male reading Spencer's POV. I liked that!
When Spencer realized that his love for Ellie was so strong, he got over the feeling that he didn't deserve her, and that their life together could become a reality. Also, when he and Ellie accepted that they could make a relationship work while in the military, despite the odds.
It made me feel happy, and hopeful -- not only for this young couple but for the "real people" who are struggling to have a relationship while one of them is in the military in these challenging times.
I highly recommend this book! It is a quick and fun read which you will not regret.
