Publisher's summary

Rowan Summerwaite is no ordinary woman. Raised at the knee of The First and honed into a weapon by the Hunter Corporation, she wields ancient knowledge from the Goddess Brigid...and is newly married to a powerful Vampire scion.

Though she’d hoped the deadly events in Venice would end the threat to The Treaty she is sworn to protect, Rowan found evidence of a grander conspiracy to destroy the fragile peace that holds humans, Vampires and those with magic back from war. A war that would only hurt the weakest and destabilize the world as we know it.

It’s not so much that someone ordered her assassination that makes her angry - people try to kill her all the time - as it is the risks those she cares for, especially her new husband, now face. Clive Stewart has never tried to pen Rowan in or control her choices. He has his own fires to put out now that he’s married to the most powerful non-Vampire in their world, and Rowan knows it’s a challenge to support her the way she needs while not being too much or not enough.

The organization that gave her a purpose, a home, roots and a path when she’d run from The Keep at 17 has betrayed her. Now, instead of on a much-anticipated honeymoon, Rowan is in London gathering her allies and the evidence necessary to drive out the rot within Hunter Corp. and expose whoever is at the top. Rowan is a predator and this threat is prey. She'll burn it down and salt the earth afterward. On her terms.

Rowan/Goddess

I love this series it is one of my favorites. I find Rowan hysterical the way she pulls no punches verbally, but unlike most of us she can back up anything she says or threatens which I think is fantastic. Being a strong, smart, independent woman she has and continues to make many enemies; the sad but true part is they loathe her bc of her strengrh and power not bc they actually dislike her as they dont even know her.
Rowan also has insecurities, anxiety and doesnt she herself and beautiful or "the shit" which makes her even more likable and real.
My one bitch is that for the last couple of books, this one especially, they really leave you HANGING!!! It drives me crazy but its smart of Lauren Dane!!!
Can't wait for the next one to come out, hopefully soon so i dont forget any details of this one (mind you, its not like I can not go back and relisten to this book!!)
The narrator is also very good and I hope that isnt changed bc she is Rowan and when they are changed miseries it ruins/detracts from the story and experience.
So in closing, another great Rowan/Goddess book!!

Enthralling

What made the experience of listening to At Blade's Edge the most enjoyable?

The repartee is crisp, the action is continuous, and the heroine is both thoughtful and a real badass.

What was one of the most memorable moments of At Blade's Edge?

Rowan considers options then commits to her actions - no holes barred.

What does Simone Lewis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Read the book before I bought the audio. It is a favorite series. She does an excellent job with characterizations.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely

Any additional comments?

Reading/Listening to the series in order is beneficial to understanding.

Needed a little more…

This installment was a little flat for me. After realizing that there is a traitor amongst us and how deep the treachery had gone on, I thought this story would be a little more exciting. It is mainly Rowan settling into married life, David being given more exposure, Clive introducing us to his family and some of the dynamics there, and the introduction of Genevieve, the witch (who is awesome). Otherwise, the only action was when Rowan finally got to confront the traitors only to find that she hasn’t cut off the head of the snake. That person took one of Rowan’s friends and now there will definitely be hell to pay. She is pissed and on her way back to Vegas.

Just because this one story wasn’t action packed didn’t mean it wasn’t good. It served its purpose to set us up for the next one.

Big Disappointment - Rushed, underdeveloped and short

I love this series and the narration is terrific. Unfortunately, this book was not the same quality as the others in the series. It was unsatisfying, like it's half of a longer book and it's clear the author was really rushed to meet a deadline and the story definitely suffered. The last chapters are so rushed. When the big coming out 4-day marriage celebration at Theo's finally happened at the end of the book, the author only gave it a few pages!!! Seriously? It was so bizarre considering the fact we've been anticipating it since the last book and the author talked it up all through this one, as well. I really really wish the publisher had given an even longer extension to the author. I'd much rather wait. This book suffered. Poor book. Sorry Lauren. You're awesome, but something happened and in my dreams it will be reissued in a more complete form someday....
