Part of the Bestselling Series World The Immortal Ops by Mandy M. Roth

Paranormal Shifter Military Special Ops Romance

Paranormal Security and Intelligence Operative Duke Marlow has a new mission: find, interrogate and possibly eliminate the target - Mercy Deluca. He knows looks can be deceiving, but it's hard to believe the beautifully quirky woman running around in a superhero t-shirt is a viable threat. The sexy little biomedical engineer quickly proves she is more than he bargained for and Intel has it all wrong—she's not the enemy. Far from it. Intel also forgot to mention one vital piece of information—she's Duke's mate. This immortal alpha werewolf doesn't take kindly to her being in danger.

When Mercy accepted a position within Donavon Dynamics Corporation, she thought it was to help cure disease and to make a difference for mankind. She had no idea what her new career path truly entailed—monsters masquerading under the guise of scientific research. Unable to stomach the atrocities she's uncovered, she reaches out through what she hopes is the proper channels, asking for help. Mercy gets more than she bargained for when a team of paranormal hotties show up on her doorstep ready to take down the Corporation. One in particular is able to get under her skin, both aggravating and exciting her in ways she can't explain.

Great Start to the PSI-Ops

I had previously read Act of Mercy quite a while back. I can say that I much more enjoyed listening to it. Hearing Mason Lloyd bring it to life with all the quirks of the characters and the grumbles of Duke. He was spot on with Duke and the team.

Duke is still a bristly, grumbly wolf shifter. His team is still hysterical, even now more so that I know more about them. I still enjoyed Mercy as she bumbles her way around things and just doesn’t seem to put things together that are outside of her focus. Listening to Act of Mercy was a perfect way to refresh the start of the PSI-Ops. Mercy was perfect for Duke and this was great listen.

Mercy for Duke

You start the story with Duke, a werewolf, who is a PSI-Op, and is typing up a report for a mission he just went out on. He hates just about everything, especially technology. While he is typing he receive a call from a woman, he doesn't know it yet but it is his mate Mercy, calling to verify that they received her information. He thinks it is a prank, acts like a jerk, and hangs up.

Mercy is a doctor, a tech- guru, and works for the Corporation. She doesn't know what she is but knows that there is a genetic abnormality with her DNA (we later find out she is part pixie). When she got hired on she did not realize how evil they were and is doing everything possible to bring them down. She will not leave until she can save James Hagan, who use to be a PSI-Op with Duke.

I love the way they interact. Duke can't help but be himself, a crabby jerk, and Mercy is very brilliant but absent minded because of all the thoughts going through her mind. You meet the PSI- Ops in this book and there is a lot of back and forth, it is hilarious. Also, the interaction between Duke and Mercy is steamy and funny. One of my favorite parts of the story is when Duke "threatens" to show Mercy his penis if she keeps staring and she tells him to go ahead and show her, not phased one bit.

The narration was great. I think Mason Lloyd did a great job as usual. I love his Scottish accent.

A Heroine, Mad Scientist, and Evil Corporation

Act of Mercy is the first book I listened to in the Immortal Ops: PSI-Ops series. I love the character Duke Marlow, wolf-shifter, who hates everything. He may be several hundred years old but he definitely never adopts to technologies such as computers, planes, and modern devices or even like the cities he had been to on his PSI-Ops missions.

Duke received a phone call from an unknown. Instead of listening to the caller, he made the assumption that the caller wanted an investigation to her alien abduction. He later learned that the caller was giving his agency information regarding on his missing teammate and that his teammate was held against his will.

This is an action-packed story. There is never a boring moment. The author gives enough information that the readers/listeners can relate to the characters. I loved the comparade between Duke and his teammates and his commander, Corbian. It made the story fun.

Mercy is a smart and no-nonsense bio-engineer scientist. She worked with the Corporation without realizing what it does. By the time she realized what the Corporation was doing, she knew she was in too deep. She knew that the odds were against her if she tried to rescue all of the supernatural beings especially Jimmy. But with Duke, Corbian, Strkyer, and Boomer (the PSI-Ops team), she might have a chance in escaping all of the captured test subjects.

The narrator, Mason Lloyd is great. I can distinguish each characters' voices. He is going to be one of my favorite narrators that I would love to listen to over and over again.

I do recommend readers/listeners this book. I'm ready to listen to the next book in this series. I'm just glad that the audiobook came along because the ebook copy would still be sitting in my ereader.

I was given this audiobook by the author with no expectation. I have decided to write an unbiased review for this book. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.
