Publisher's summary

Three tales - one past, one present, one future - explore what it is to love and just how far someone would go for the love of another.

The Past: Lady Daphne Collister is unimpressed with her fellow magic-wielding debutantes. She finds their methods overbearing. Surely there was a better way of finding a noble husband in Regency England?

The Present: Ellie loves Josh. Josh barely knows Ellie exists. For her, it is not enough to sit behind him at school every day. What must Ellie do to get Josh to notice her? How about a love spell? After all, what could go wrong?

The Future: Leo and his co-worker Katerina have fallen in love. Secretly, of course, for office romance is illegal and all marriages are strictly regulated. There's only one exception: the Valentine Raffle. But to win at love, Leo and Katerina may need to cheat the system....

3 Cute Stories

The first story is set in an alternate Regency England where girls use magical charms to hunt and trap eligible men of the Ton into marriage.

I liked the second story best. It was a modern tale of a very silly teenage girl and her years long efforts to attract the attention of her crush. Her overdramatic behaviour is quite humerous.

Tale three is a futuristic story of a society where the eligibility to enter into a 5 year marriage contract is chose by a selective raffle.

A fun little romp

If you could sum up A Lady of Many Charms and Other Stories in three words, what would they be?

Light fantasy romances.

What did you like best about this story?

The first story, "A Lady of Many Charms", was an interesting take on historical romance. The main character, Daphne, kept my interest. I liked that she was more grounded than anyone else. Perry was mostly interesting, but was not quite as developed as a character.

"Ellie Loves Josh" was my least favorite of the stories. Perhaps I'm too far removed from being a teenager now. I think this story might appeal most to angsty teenage girls. Keep in mind that I like romances, but this romance felt too forced.

"The Valentine Raffle" reminded me slightly of "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell, though it was much more cheerful overall. The premise of the story was quickly explained, and I really felt for the main character and his intended. This was my favorite story of the three.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Mostly, since it was narrated by the author. There were a few missteps here and there, but they generally didn't detract from the stories.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.
