UGH

I am only 1/3 of the way through and it really is torture to finish it. I myself also loved A Lady at Last but this one is horrible. Ariela professes her love to Emilian after what, literally one day? and in that day he treats her with nothing but disrespect and hatred. The first 4 hours are filled with nothing but Emilian's revengeful nature and spouting of his hatred for the English. If I hear the term Gaugo (sp) one more time i think i will puke. I agree with the other reviewer, the heroin in this one is no heroin but a week, spineless ninny and it is unbelievable she just accepts Emilians cruelty and says "oh but i love you". Granted as i said I am only about 5 hours into it and dreading the remaining (but i refuse to waste my money so i am really hoping it gets better). I really to recommend you save your money and your credit, this one is terrible and i usually have a pretty good tolerance for even the mediocre. Oh and i find the narrator HORRIBLE and nasaly sounding in most of the characters.

Entertaining

Crazy for romance novels and Brenda Joyce is definitely one of my all time fav's. She didn't let me down in this story; however I did get sick to death of the lead male. The whole book was him fighting his inner demons and frankly it got real old real fast. I wish Brenda would have gone more into other areas of the book and not harped so much on his inner turmoil. That having been said it was a good listen and the Narrator WOW!! She' great! Hope this helps others! I thought it was worth the money.

too much to swallow

this was one of the most INCREDIBLE love stories I ever read!!! not incredible in the sense of "wow" but in the sense of " you have got to be kidding!" the amount of torment and sorrow in this tale is enough to put any one off love PERIOD!! the circumstances are so far fetched it is not feasible that someone would have stayed loving someone under these conditions, nor their family ever tolerating this guy EVER. there were so many parts that crossed the point of no return, yet there always was a second, third, forth and fifth chance!! not in a million years would a love be so untainted by such torment. Not possible, yet this story is built on sorrow, torment and torture of the heart. it paints a terrible social picture that is so one sided and abused it does not seem possible to ever recover it. I read it through more on disbelief and seeing how far they would go before calling it a day, and it just went on and on and on!!! i was emotionally exhausted and annoyed by this book.

I had no reason to like the guy

I thought the story pretty slow plonking along at times which is okay but geez Ariella is instanly in love and borderline obsessed with an idiot who had the "oohh poor me I'm an outcast" song and dance he didn't want to make the heroine an outcast too so he just treats her like dirt instead sorry but just couldn't get behind the suppose hero...

the narrator has no emotion

Any additional comments?

For me the narrator messed up the story she read with no emotions. The heroine of the story kind of annoyed me chasing after the hero.
