Publisher's summary

Just as merchant's daughter Felicity Mayson is spurned once again because of her meager dowry, she receives an unexpected invitation to Lady Blackstone's country home. Being introduced to the wealthy Oliver Ratley is an admitted delight, as is his rather heedless yet inviting proposal of marriage. Only when another of Lady Blackstone's handsome guests catches Felicity's attention does she realize that nothing is what it seems at Doverton Hall.

Government agent Philip McDowell is infiltrating a group of cutthroat revolutionaries led by none other than Lady Blackstone and Ratley. Their devious plot is to overthrow the monarchy, and their unwitting pawn is Felicity. Now Philip needs Felicity's help in discovering the rebels' secrets - by asking her to maintain cover as Ratley's innocent bride-to-be.

Philip is duty bound. Felicity is game. Together they're risking their lives - and gambling their hearts - to undo a traitorous conspiracy before their dangerous masquerade is exposed.

Why, WHY do they keep using this narrator?!?

I’m not even 25 minutes into this audible recording and I can’t keep listening. I love Melanie Dickerson’s books, but whoever selects the narrator for this series needs to be fired. It is impossible to visualize a male romantic lead with the simpering, growly, unbelievable voice that she uses for the character. This probably means I won’t finish the book for a long time, because I don’t have time to read but I do have time to listen while I drive. I hope the author gets this feedback and can weigh in on who they choose to narrate her books.

This narrator is AWFUL!!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I was really excited to read this book! Until about a minute into the audio book version. I tried for a chapter to adapt to the narrator's voice and style, but it just wasn't possible. I'm sorry, but it is REALLY BAD. This is the worst narrator I have ever listened to. Once I have time to actually sit down to read a book I'll try this one again because I'm a huge fan of Melanie Dickerson's books!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Is it a romance or action? It failed at both.

The reader's voice was irritatingly high. There was such dumb romance interspersed with some unbelievable action. Ugh

Beautiful love story

It was a wonderful story line, intriguing, suspenseful, and very intense at times. My only dislike was the female voice of Felicity. I had to keep slowing down the speed so that she didn’t sound like Shirley Temple or Minnie Mouse. All the other voices were okay, it was only when she spoke. Once I slowed her to 0.9. It was better.

Why did I finish this?!!!

Poor character development & poor plot could not be overcome even if the narration was well done. Sadly, this narrator mispronounces several words, has melodramatic, if not cartoonish voices. I wish I hadn't finished it.

Love all of her books

Can’t wait till a new series comes out! The reading is always exciting with never slow boring moments and not overly dramatic that it isn’t realistic. Jude Mason’s voice is one of my favorites.

Loved the story, not my favorite narrator

The story was wonderful. I enjoyed this series a lot. One of my favorite authors. The narration of the male voices is not my favorite.

Lots of Suspense

Of all the books in this series (so far), this has the most suspense. Lots of tense moments. Awesome narration.

Narration and God

I wasn't a fan of the narrator. Her feminine voice was very hard to distinguish between individuals and all the women ended up sounding a bit like ninny's. As far as the story goes I don't remember the other 2 books having so much praying and talk of God. It's not that I am not religious, it just started to sound a little ridiculous. Maybe it maybe I'm just not in tune with those times like I should be.
