Publisher's summary

Leticia Langley is used to fighting for what she wants. That's how she wound up being the first in her family to graduate from college. So what if she's never had a date? All that's about to change when she gets herself a job as a food columnist for The Journal - and treats herself to a makeover that will transform her life.

With her hot weave and a dazzling new wardrobe that shows off her curves, the opposite sex suddenly takes a shine to Leticia. Except for Max Baldwin - a colleague who accuses her of trying to knock him down on her stampede up the corporate ladder. But Leticia is determined to stand her ground and get her due. And as she finds herself being offered more tantalizing prospects, including a trip to Africa, she also wins the respect - and admiration - of her handsome one-time nemesis, Max. Now she'll have to decide if she wants to let down her guard and let in the one man she could get serious about.

Another Gwynne Forster charmer!!!!

I have been a fan of Mrs. Forster's style for too many years to count and when she passed she left so many stories untold. this is one of the few of her titles I'd only read once so to be reintroduced to characters id loved, to see updates from other characters id loved from other stories, and to have it all come as a new audible title was a treat!!!

i pray this is the start of her estate making all her titles available here because i am all on board for the whole roster!!!

Great!!!!!

I really liked this book and would recommend this book. I wish this book was a movie or TV show. It had a great storyline and sexual storylines. I like how it hit on self-esteem and a successful couple. It also hit on true friendship and jeolousy. Going after your dream and taking care of family was one of the many lessons in this book. A cute couple found love in a relationship that started out as unfriendly and then friendly in the end.

Light and entertaining

A bit predictable, nice story. Enjoyed it. A nice bedtime story. A quick listen. Narration was okay

Awesome performance

I haven't listened to a worse performance. You could barely tell the difference between the different characters. Max sounded more feminine than Lateesha. Also was a disappointment. After everything Lateesha was blessed with and all the lessons she learned, she still gloated in that girls from college's face. at the end it made her seen small and very mean. Also the writer used unnecessarily complicated words.

Good story but repetitive

This was a good, clean love story but it was somewhat repetitive. The leading lady kept going in circles which seemed to drag out the book. Overall, I would recommend it to others.

Slow moving story with poor narration

The story was okay...for the most part. First, let me talk about the good parts of the book:

Leticia’s trip to the African countries of Nigeria and Kenya were great. The writing and descriptions were so good that I felt like I was there. I never knew there were so many differences in cultures and behaviors among people who seem identical on paper. The only problem with the parts that took place in Africa is that they had very little to do with the story the book was telling. I think it was trying to show the reader that the main character was learning to become a better writer, but it was all just so random. The only other part of the book that I liked was the cook/housekeeper. She was a breath of fresh air.

Now let’s talk about why I wouldn’t recommend this book:

1. The continual mention of how the main character, Leticia, looked so much better because of her long flowing weave was tiring. I was like, “Really?!” So much for loving yourself for who you are.

2. The cousin/best friend, Kenyetta was ridiculous. No one acts that way. The woman was mean, self centered, petty, and all around awful, yet Leticia continued to call her, and take her calls. Preposterous.

3. The romance between Leticia and Max took waaay too long. And Ms. Forster did a very poor job of building both the friendship and the romance. Wasn’t believable.

3. None of the characters, especially all the successful and super supportive black journalists, felt real. There was nothing realistic in any of their interactions.

4. The side story of Kenyetta and Reggie, then Wilson, had no point in this story. She should’ve had her own book about self love, lacking of self respect and some type of redemption. It felt like the only reason she was in this book was so that the author could make the overweight black woman into a villain. And of course her horrible behavior was based on her being overweight. The author didn’t even bother to wrap up her story.

5. Finally, though the book was not good, the narration was even worse. Lisa Renee Pitts was mostly awful. It sounded like she was a beginning reader most of the time. Kinda like when elementary school kids take turns reading aloud in class. It was cringy. I’ll avoid any and all narrations from her in the future.

I started with the positive, so I’ll end on a positive note. It’s clear that Ms. Forster did her research before writing this book. She researched the DC area, newspaper publishing, and the countries of Africa (at least a few of them). And for the knowledge I gained, I’m thankful I read this book. Forget the flimsy romance and drama. If you read this, read it for the knowledge you’ll gain. Read a different book for romance and good drama.

narrator spoke very softly for some characters then loud and country for others. I was constantly adjusting the volume on my headphones.

Extremely worthy

I haven’t written a review in a while but this book gave me great joy. It did confuse me on occasion but that was only due to my putting limits on my own understanding. I’m grateful for having listened to this story and it has inspired me. I hope all of those who choice this book in the future enjoy it just as much if not more then I did.

Great but...

I really want to finish this book- it will have to wait until I have time to actually read it; I could not make it past Chapter 2 unable to listen anymore to the voice of narrator. Just because one can read, does not mean you should narrate "anything".
