Publisher's summary

The next heart pounding novel in the KGI series from Maya Banks, the New York Times best-selling author of Rush, Fever, and Burn, the Breathless trilogy.

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business.

Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background.

Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the US government can’t...

Steele, a KGI team leader, is an enigma not even his teammates understand. His emotions are tightly locked down and nothing can break that icy exterior. Nothing except Maren Scofield, a doctor on a mission, a woman who has gotten under Steele’s skin and threatens to crack that unflappable cool he’s legendary for. Steele is determined not to allow Maren past his carefully guarded defenses. But when she’s in danger, there’s no way he’ll allow anyone else to protect her. Maren’s hiding something. He’s sure of it. But he isn’t prepared for the shocking discovery her secrets reveal. Or how they will forever alter the course of his destiny. He has a decision to make. Hold tight and shut her out. Or take a chance on something more powerful than he’s ever faced: Love.

Hard as steele

Well the Iceman met his match. Once again my a Banks creates a character worth getting to know. I was surprised at his choice. But it makes perfect sense.

My favorite in the series so far

Who doesn’t love a tough hard dude who finally falls in love and kicks ass to save her?? I really like Marin’s (excuse possible misspelling) character because she’s pretty normal, smart, self-deprecating, and teasing of her man. Excellent storyline too.

Steele is Christian Bale as Batman!

Where does Forged in Steele rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love the story, haven't quite finished it yet, but its a good book. As to the title of my review... Anyone who has seen the recent Batman movies should be familiar with the growly voice Christian Bale uses when he's in Batman mode. Well, the narrator does this with Steele. I keep wanting to tell him to get a drink or give the guy some cough drops. Its rather jarring and I keep picturing Batman.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like Hancock so far. I haven't finished the book yet, so assuming he doesn't die in this, I hope to see him in a future book.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Adam Paul?

Yes, but please stop doing the Batman Voice for Steele. Please.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I guess, but work and sleep intervened.

Any additional comments?

I miss the old narrator for this series.

Just gets better and better!!

What made the experience of listening to Forged in Steele the most enjoyable?

Just when I think this series can't keep up the momentum and get better, it does!!
Wonderful story of Steele and Maren in the fast paced, plot turning KGI series Maya Banks is known for. Steele must finally face his past and why he is the "man of steel". The characters are brought to life in this book and I just had to keep listening 5 more minutes. And, did I forget to say HOT! HOT! HOT! Well, can't leave that out or would not be a MB novel!

What other book might you compare Forged in Steele to and why?

It is it's own story, they are all good and individualized with Maya's creative imagination and story telling!

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was the down part of the book. While I am adjusting to a new narrator in the series and finally getting used to Adam Paul's voice, he did a "gravely" persona of Steele, which I felt made Steele sound like an old man instead of "tough".

Narrator doesn’t do it for me.

Narrator is trying too hard. Steele’s voice sounds like Dirty Harry with a cold. It is just weird and very distracting. Story was good but damn. It is hard to keep going, I️ finally had to get the book. My imagination is much better than listening to that guy.

Holy bad narrator Batman!!!!!!!

Love this series. Hate the new narrator. Steele sounds like Ridiculous and I keep laughing at everything he says. I keep picturing Christian Bale and those YouTube videos of the dad that keeps yelling at his wife in the Batman voice. It's awful and takes away from the overall experience; however, the story is great. Love Maya Banks!

No Longer A Tin Man

Steele was always a little intimidating to me in the other KGI books, but I knew when he was felled by the mighty emotion of love it would be good. I wasn't wrong. Now I wondered just how emotionally expressive he would be since he was, in every other story, cold as ice. It wasn't too little and it wasn't too much. He got his point across in a very clear and warm way and I enjoyed seeing the escalation of emotion as he and Dr. Maren Scofield spent more and more time together. He didn't go down without a fight, but then I wouldn't have expected any less from this man of Steele.
