Publisher's summary

Jayne Ann Krentz follows up her highly successful Dreamlight Trilogy – written in collaboration with her two alter egos, Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle – with a brand-new story arc that begins in a secluded coastal town in northern California.

Scargill Cove is the perfect place for Fallon Jones, confirmed recluse and investigator of the paranormal. It’s a hot spot, a convergence point for unusually strong currents of energy, which might explain why the town attracts misfits and drifters like moths to a flame. Now someone else has been drawn to the Cove – Isabella Valdez, on the run from some very dangerous men.

When she starts working as Fallon’s assistant, Isabella impresses him by organizing his pathologically chaotic office – and doesn’t bat an eye at the psychic element of his job. She’s a kindred spirit, a sanctuary from a world that considers his talents a form of madness. But after a routine case unearths an antique clock infused with dark energy, Fallon and Isabella are dragged into the secret history of Scargill Cove and forced to fight for their lives, as they unravel a cutthroat conspiracy with roots in the Jones family business…and Isabella’s family tree.

Oh well, I enjoyed it.

Having read all of the Arcane novels, I was glad to see Fallon Jones finally get some happiness in his life. I enjoyed the novel for the most part, and liked it better than some of the series. It was worth listening to if for nothing else to continue to learn more about the Arcane sagas. Was Isabella a bit far-fetched? Sure, but not intolerable.

Nightmares!

It was hard for me to pay attention to the story, because of the creepy voices the narrator used for all the males!! I literally had nightmares! I was really looking forward to this book, but after the first 2 minutes, I could hardly wait to be finished!!! Not only were the male voices creepy, but the main female's voice made her seem like a total bimbo that spoke like a baby!

couldn't stand Isabella

I usually enjoy Arcane books but this one fell flat for me, mostly due to Isabella's character. I felt as though she did a lot of whining and her background story wasn't that great. I did enjoy the beginning but it became too wordy and in depth to the physics of it all and i totally lost interest. Lastly i found the spark between Isabella and Fallon dull and unbelievable. I am usually really rooting for the couple to get together but this time i didn't find myself caring too much either way.

Good story

I enjoy the Arcane Series. Victorian, present day, or off planet on the future. No matter what name she writes under all are wonderful.

Wonderful story!

I’ve been relistening to all the arcane and harmony/in shadow novels. I was so glad to see Arizona Snow pop up in another book. One Dienst get a real feeling for Arizona in this book but she is a charming conspiracy theorist and can be found as a much more prominent character in the Eclipse Bay trilogy. Eclipse Bay also has brief mentions in previous books with by mentioning Arizona or Dreamscapes. This series is enchanting as it follows the Jones and Winters families through their bloodlines and descendants. It’s also ingenious to see the descendants of the families appear in the Harmony (off world) novels, still with paranormal senses intact. As a Seattleite I also enjoy the Seattle vibe and landscape/ locations although that was t present in this novel. It does play more prominently in others.

One of my favorites

I only have one beef about the story and I’ll blame that on the editor or beta readers. Isabella and Fallon find the clock in an armoire when Sylvia Tremont says she couldn’t find the clock Isabella tells her ‘that’s because the clock was hidden under the new floor the killer built’.
That really buggs me, but I love the story so much I ignore the error
Julee a devoted fan
