Engaging

A very different Highlander tale. The narrator, Tim Campbell, is excellent with multiple characters to express. Was an enjoyable read.

Would you listen to Onyx again? Why?

I will listen to this story again, as it relates to the stories of his four sisters, so I am certain after I go to each of those I will want to revisit Onyx's story. It went by so quickly- really interesting plot.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Aiden and Ian, Onyx's two best friends made me laugh. I envisioned them as his hot sidekicks. I also thought the blind hag added intrigue, and Onyx's natural father was a man who had regrets, but was a complicated person.

Have you listened to any of Tim Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to several of Tim Campbell's performances, by several different authors. I have yet to be disappointed! His interpretation of each character in this story, and their voices, along with differing accents was wonderful. I truly enjoyed myself listening to the tale.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself laughing throughout the reading, especially at the antics of Onyx's two friends. I felt for Lady Love as she worried for her son, and was saddened with Fenella's fate.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this story and can highly recommend it. The plot was interesting and had moments of varying emotional ups and downs, with humor and romance. All this and told by a fantastic narrator.

Tim Campbell does a great job narrating the books characters. An absolute must have. Loved It.

Author Elizabeth Rose writes incredibly fun, loveable characters in this first book of the Madman McKeefe series. With tall, sexy highlanders and their amusing pets, you will absolutely love this story.

Onyx's Story

I enjoyed this audiobook. It was a well-written story with good characters, a suspenseful plot, and some humor to mix in with the tragedies. It even had a little paranormal thrown in. I liked the narrator's voice, especially when he did a Scottish brogue, but I missed dual narration and hearing an actual woman perform the women's voices.

Life or Death

I enjoyed listening to this book. Narrator was good. This book continues the story of the Daughters of the Dagger series. We are introduced to a baby that has two different colored eyes and then the story continues when he is older. Interesting storyline, but I totally liked how the two series merged. Onyx has been scorned all his life, but that changes when he meets Lady Love.

ONYX .. book 1 in Madman Maccheffe series and the last book in Daughter’s of the Dagger. This book is wonderful .. a jewel who was lost then found. From having one small family to gaining many having found his. I’m sadden this series is over but this author has a writing talent that I just can’t put her books down. And I will continue to the next series. She has become one of my fav. A must read , page turner 💋🗡

Elizabeth Rose’s next in the series of the blade is a wonderful story.
It is an exciting novel. A romance novel with a little bit of magic, then you'll love Onyx.
Tim Campbell has an amazing voice which brings the characters to life in the audio version.

Intriguing, Exciting, Sexy Romance.

Tim Campbell, what a fabulous narrator he is. He is one of only 2 male narrators that can do a believable assortment of female voices while also being able to have a sultry, sexy, deep voice for the male heroes of a book, in this case, Onyx. The emotions that Tim can get across from the characters is wonderful making him my second favourite male narrator. Even just his normal reading voice is smooth and is a delight to listen to. I believe this man could read the phone book and make it sound exciting. Thankfully he doesn't have to do that and having Onyx to narrate spotlights how talented he is.

As for the story, I enjoyed the intrigue and the twists and turns. Onyx and Lovelle's lives have been intertwined for much longer than they could have dreamed. When certain things come to the fore I couldn't help but feel the same emotions as the characters themselves. I was absolutely gobsmacked when a truth was revealed about Onyx's father. Talk about not seeing something coming!!

I really only think there was one thing that made me cringe in the story and that was when as a newborn baby, Onyx was supposed to be wide-eyed and had a big smile on his face when he was first introduced to the story. Not the actions of any newborn baby that I have come into contact with. It's just a niggling thing, but it stops the story being perfect. Other than that I definitely have no criticisms and am very happy to recommend the book. I definitely plan to read more of the series.

An entertaining listen

I enjoyed listening to Onyx, especially Tim Campbell's narration. There is a distinct difference in his male & female voices. I find women narrators don't always have a deep resonate male sound and sometimes the men don't sound soft enough for a woman.
The story was very good, with humor making such a seriously sad story run smoothly.
I believe knowing some of the previous stories help understanding the scenes with the old blind hag, it is not necessary. Onyx is very successful as a standalone.
The reason I enjoy historical romance books so much is the obligatory HEA ending. I gave up years ago going to a movie and come out crying over the ending. I feel my entertainment should be just that - entertainment!
I believe you will be quite entertained with a listen to Onyx.

Onyx - Madman MacKeefe

I finished listening to the audible book Onyx by Elizabeth Rose. The story is about Onyx MacKeefe and an English woman Lady Lovelle. Lady Lovelle came to the MacKeefe's to find a woman who Onyx thought was his mother. Lady Lovelle said that his mother had killed her father and stolen property that belonged to her mother and she wanted it back. The story has many twists, turns, romance, adventure, a little humor and love. I really enjoyed this book and I had listened to book 2 and book 3 first until I won book 1 from Elizabeth Rose.

Tim Campbell did an excellent job of making the characters come to life. I highly recommend Elizabeth Rose's books or audible books. They are well written and keep your interest.
