Publisher's summary

For three years, Lady Veronica Smithson has been perfectly happy as a widow - and thoroughly independent. Still, the right gentleman could provide the benefits of marriage without the tedious restrictions. And in Sir Sebastian Hadley-Attwater, renowned explorer and rogue, Veronica is sure she has found him. Sebastian will come into his inheritance in a matter of weeks - if his family deems him responsible enough. There’s no better way to prove his maturity than with a home and a wife.

But though the lovely Veronica will share his bed, she steadfastly refuses to marry. However, Sebastian has a plan: an intimate sojourn at his new country house will surely change Veronica’s mind. For Sebastian never takes "no" for an answer. And even in the midst of mischief-making relatives and unexpected complications, he intends to persuade his Christmas mistress that they belong together - in this and every season to come.

I love a good farce

Setting: England 1885
Genre: Romance

I have never been disappointed by a performance by Susan Duerden. She engages the listener in this lighthearted romance.

I quite enjoyed this story about Lady Veronica, whose goal is to break out of her straight-laced widowhood by taking a lover, and Sir Sebastian, whose goal is to leave behind his footloose past by taking a wife. She refuses his marriage proposal and he refuses to make her his mistress. He gives in so he can convince her she should marry him, and takes her to his new house for the holiday. Then his family descends on them uninvited and misunderstanding ensues. This is a good farce that will have you laughing out loud.

Yes, I'd say it's worth the credit.

Just OK

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you enjoy formulaic romance for light reading, you will probably enjoy it. No real character development and came off like a recycled plotline.

Another Great Hit

Would you consider the audio edition of His Mistress by Christmas to be better than the print version?

I have only heard the audio version

What was one of the most memorable moments of His Mistress by Christmas?

The end - what the legacy truly was.

What does Susan Duerden bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

She is fantastic. Brings such life to this story. Funny as only Victoria Alexander can do.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You Went Through All This for That?

Any additional comments?

I love Victoria Alexander's books and this one does not fail. Funny, witty and just plain good entertainment. I wish all her books were audiobooks. I have all her books but audiobooks just gives it another dimension.

What a great series!

Great characters and great side characters. And nobody can narrate as well as Susan Duerden. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Such a fun Christmas Farce

Out of all of the Christmas books I tried this year, this was the most fun and witty. The family characters are fun and quirky. Christmas traditions abound. Susan Duerden does excellent job narrating. Don’t worry, this isn’t a story forced around Christmas. In fact, Christmas doesn’t come into play until the last third or so of the book. That made it even more special.

4.5*

Susan Duerden did an amazing job! I think her narration brought more to the story and mad it even more enjoyable. I docked a half star only because

***spolier***

she left. Even though it was just for a day, it was ridiculous, but then I hate silly misunderstanding like that...even though most people seem to enjoy that in books. It's only half a star because they were only apart for a day and not even a full chapter. This will be a book I reread.
