Publisher's summary

In this "exquisite gem from a master" of Regency Romance, one duke's plan to find a bride makes for a most entertaining house party (Library Journal).

Julian St. David, Duke of Haverford, is barely keeping his head above water in a sea of inherited debts. Though he has a long-term plan to restore the family finances, his sister has a much faster solution: host a house party for London's single young ladies and find Julian a wealthy bride.

Elizabeth Windham has no interest in marriage, but a recent scandal has forced her hand. As much as she'd rather be reading Shakespeare than husband hunting, she has to admit she's impressed by Julian's protective instincts, broad shoulders, and, of course, his vast library. As the two spend more time together, their attraction is overwhelming, unexpected...and absolutely impossible. With meddling siblings, the threat of financial ruin, and gossips lurking behind every potted palm, will they find true love or true disaster?

"Smart, sexy, and oh-so-romantic." (Mary Balogh)

"Grace Burrowes is a romance treasure." (Tessa Dare)

Critic reviews

"The Trouble with Dukes is captivating! It has everything I love in a book - a sexy Scotsman, a charming heroine, witty banter, plenty of humor, and lots of heart." (Jennifer Ashley, New York Times best-selling author of The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie)

"Grace Burrowes writes from the heart - with warmth, humor, and a generous dash of sensuality, her stories are unputdownable! If you're not reading Grace Burrowes you're missing the very best in today's Regency Romance!" (Elizabeth Hoyt, New York Times best-selling author)

"The hero of The Trouble with Dukes reminds me of Mary Balogh's charming men, and the heroine brings to mind Sarah MacLean's intelligent, fiery women... This is a wonderfully funny, moving romance, not to be missed!" (Eloisa James, New York Times best-selling author of My American Duchess)

Thoroughly enjoyable characters and story

Another delightful romance among the Windham brides.

The hero faces massive responsibilities and looming debt. The heroine is worn down to a nub by endless society rounds. They meet at the heros aging castle for just one more house party that the hero must host and can ill afford. As usual, reluctant romance ensues.

The rest charm of this outing are a lively, well developed set of secondary characters. All are driven by blind devotion to their plans and refusal to come to grips with the fallout of those plans...until they see the light. The characters and plot twists are inserted with a deft touch and move the story along nicely. The designated villain of the piece is wonderfully nuanced and not entirely villainous...and will get his own story in the next book.

Such a delightful romance

James Langton is an awesome narrator and especially good at interpreting Grace's delightful and sometimes zany dialogue. I really enjoyed this book with its strong and likeable characters. The Windham women are certainly strong-willed and strong-minded and I like that. In this book, the Duke is certainly a match for Elizabeth, but they each understand and respect the other. My favorite character tho is Griffin, who is so very lovable. I've heard this book several times, but am just now taking time to write a review. Grace....thank you for writing all your lovely romances...and for finding James Langton.

Love the story

Love the story. I enjoyed the many different love stories and can only hope we hear more about them in the next installment since all were not buttoned up in this one.

I liked the story at first....,,

I did not like how Julian , the Duke, stuck to his penury like a badge of pride! He didn't think of selling some of the antique books in his huge library(even though several other people told him)) until, of course, the very end of the story! I did like his kindness and thoughtfulness towards Elizabeth, though. His relationship with her was tender and caring. The book's ending left Elizabeth's sister, Charlotte, hanging - but I guess that is so the author can use her for another book! The narrator is great! I like his versatile voice!

Enjoyed the performance very much. The story is sweet although a bit slow moving at times.

Story boredom!

Long drawn out, no passion, no drama, just bah... too bad because the idea of the plot sounded so promising.

Too much sex. Not enough romance, character, and plot.

Very disappointed. I enjoyed the other two “Duke” books by Burrowes, but this plot was weak and seemed designed only to link the many sex scenes together. Will try another author now.
