Publisher's summary

From the moment they met, Marjie's heart has belonged to handsome Captain Stanley Jonquil, younger brother of the Earl of Lampton. But six long months ago, when Stanley's sense of honor required that he do as he had sworn and return to the continent to fight in defense of king and country, neither Stanley nor Marjie could have dreamed what the cost of his service would be. It has been ages since Stanley last wrote, and Marjie and the Jonquil family are plagued by his unknown fate - until the day he unexpectedly reappears.

Marjie's joy, however, is quickly shadowed by confusion - the aloof, battle-worn soldier before her is not the man he once was. In the wake of Stanley's blatant disinterest in renewing their acquaintance, Marjie's devastation turns to determination as she vows to help him find peace. But his scars run far deeper than anyone realizes. Despite his feelings for her, Stanley believes Marjie deserves a man whose hands are not stained with the violence of battlefields and whose mind and heart are not haunted by the horrors he has seen. Honor requires Stanley to return once more to the life he has grown to despise, one he knows will destroy him in the end, even as his heart beckons him to stay with Marjie, the only woman he could ever love, and the promise, at last, of redemption.

Gave me the feels

Love the Jonquils!! The emotions captured by the author from both Stanley and Margie’s perspectives just squeezed my heart. I felt the struggle with both of them. The theme of loyalty throughout echoes the many tough choices that have to be made in life that aren’t always crystal clear. Looking forward to the next in the series.

More Jonquil Brothers 💕

Another wonderful addition to the Jonquil brothers series; this one featuring our war hero Stanley and his young love Marjie —- with of course lots of great updates on the other Jonquils, particularly Philip and Sorrel.

Heartwarming, laughter and tear making

This is a beautifully written and read romantic story. After finding that Sarah Eden's books were available in audio, I bought them all again.

Very emotional!

I think this is the most thought provoking of the Jonquil brothers stories. Stanley is so broken by war and I cried so many times as I listened to his pain and anguish over all he has been through. Margie loves him so very much and is so saddened by his distance and aloof behavior. I wondered clear until the end, if all would be well and they would get their happily ever after.

Couldn't stop listening

The better of the books in the series. I've purchased them all. One left to hear. All have been enjoyable.

Sad but hopeful

I've read this book before and just got to listen to the audio version. I love the book either way. The narrator does a good job.

While One Fine Gentleman made me laugh through out, For Love or Honor was the emotional opposite. This book is so much harder to read than the others in this series. I had tears in my eyes through most of it and those spilled over more than once. If I had read this book first, I'm not sure that I would have read the rest of the series because this was emotionally so taxing. Stanley was such a broken spirit it was just heart breaking. And even though it was killing him, he still sought to give what he could to others. Because that is what Jonquils do. Unfortunately he wasn't always able to see what he needed to give to his loved ones and there we have the conflict of the story.

As always I love the brothers and always wish we spent more time with them all together. They are just so fun. I really felt like meeting of the brothers in the gatehouse was the only lighthearted part of the book. It came as a much needed relief to my heart and made me smile through out that encounter. Pluck was also some comic relief but there was always a little sadness around him too.
The chapter with Caroline loving Stanley's hurt away was killer to my heart. I would have enjoyed more of her in the story as well.

There were a couple story threads left hanging. I didn't mind the thread to set up Holy Harry's story but the thread with Sorrel was killer to not have resolved in this book. How long do I have to wait until the next one comes out? I hate waiting....

An honest love story about the challenges of PTSD

Lovely story. I love this author. Narrator had great accents and emotion. I enjoyed thinking about the challenges of loving a soldier with PTS D. Margie was a bit too sweet and cried more than I would like. She isn't as fiery as some of Edens other characters. But I liked her in her determined and confident moments. Great ending.
