Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.

I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely.

Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful—a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty.

My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him-a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in.

My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story.

I think this actually lives up to the dark part...

Most "DARK' romances, are not usually all that dark... Well not my kinda of dark. There needs to be a level of violence with a dark romance... If you fall in-love with the H/h who is supposed to be the bad guy, in like chapter 2, well that just defeats the purpose of having a villain right..

Anyway, THIS WAS AWESOMENESS!!! A great DARK romance!!!

Our H is a totally mysterious but likeable A-hole for the things he do to the h... I was totally wrapped in the story the entire book.

It got a bit boring during the middle, but actually now that the book is over... the middle really makes sense...because where the h was being held... there was really nothing to do, but what she was doing...sooooooo...Yeah, no action required... (by golly! I think I just figured that out!)

So after the hospital, the book goes from 0.... nah, more like 35mph to 60 in the blink of an eye. I was literally pressing my ear bobs into my eardrums to make sure I heard this and that... I didn't want to miss anything! The action toward the end was that good...but then... right before the ending, the h... OMG! I just wanted to b*slap her....

Yes, by now you will totally love the H, even though you only know a pinky nail much about him,but STILL.... I felt like the h didn't deserve my perfectly badass villain... She totally broke the ultimate rule!!!

Anyway... I loved the ending, serious little girl butterflies.... Awesome job Anna Zaires... Awesome job...

The smex was just so smexy too... Love me some Alpha Man punishment!!!

Narration was not the greatest...but a far far step up from the Liaison books by Zaires on Audible. I actually wish this narrator could go back and re-narrate the Liaison books, because that series is one of my faves, that was ruined by narration... Rae did a decent job with this... Love the H voice... so smexy!

This is a totally Credit or Sale... I prefer not to buy books over 10 bucks unless its a must have... This was more like a very enjoyable have... a definite re-listen, but not necessarily a must have. Although, one could save a credit for a more enticing listen and just buy this because its not that expensive... still under 15 bucks... This book wasn't enticing like you are ready to beat someone if they disturb you...this was however, highly enjoyable... 2pts for Zaires!!

2.5 stars. This Book Was Tough To Listen Too!

If, I hadn't read that little teaser for the next book I wouldn't be torn. I would have, straight out, not liked this book because Julian did really ugly things to Nora and she was just wide open accepting and enjoying everything (with one or two half-hearted rebellion attempts). I was never convinced that he had any feelings for her as an individual person, it was all about him and his dead friend. He successfully moulded her into his pet and that was what he called. She looked like someone he had loved and he made her into his sexual plaything, moulded her entire identity, sexual and otherwise. She wasn't the least bit concerned about her parents or anything else afterwards.

But with the teaser, the author does allude to the fact that Julian is well aware of what he has done to this malleable girl, she believes she loves him. I was torn between 2 or 4 stars, but it's a romance book, so I don't think the really dark potential of the story will be realised.

There wasn't a lot of dialogue, so in my opinion you don't get to see the relationship building, which in this case you really, really needed it. You as the listener are left asking who Nora is anyway, we never actually knew her to start off with.

Nora (h) has just turned 18 years old. A few days after her high school graduation, Julian (H), a 29 year old man, kidnaps Nora and takes her to his private island. Julian keeps Nora captive on his island for approximately 15 months. In those months Nora is repeatedly raped, spanked, whipped, kept isolated, controlled, and psychologically and sexually conditioned. I really found her age and the lack of consent really disturbing.

Shirl Rae was, IMHO flat, monotone and lacked any emotion with the delivery of the story.

I gave this 5 stars BUT

I felt like Nora felt about this book. I was confused about how I can like a book that I feel like I should hate. It was dark. Julian was a phyco-sociopath, but something about him I liked. I felt bad for Nora. Yet, I wanted her to be with Julian. I want to read more of their story, but I need a moment.

Disturbing

What was most disappointing about Anna Zaires and Dima Zales ’s story?

It was quite disturbing that an author would find drugging, kidnapping and raping a minor erotic!!!

Lures you in...

I can't explain why I decided to read/listen to this book. I'm not at all into kidnapping books and I felt sick at the idea of romanticizing the awful tragedy of being taken against your will. So let me tell you---this book was an experience for me!!! It's one in which you hate to admit you liked it. In fact, it was intriguing to me. This book is very well written, and the emotional conflict of the heroine, Nora is portrayed very well. And, how can Nora not be conflicted as she is taken away from all she knew and whisked off to a tropical island where she was subjected to a sexual world she never volunteered for? Her captor, Julian remains somewhat of a mystery, even though he does share some aspects of his life. I would assume we will learn more about Julian in Book 2. Nora describes Julian as a dark angel with great wealth and who she is drawn to (since she first met him), but she knows he's dark and can't help but get sucked into his black hole. Just as reviewers on goodreads and other sites have indicated this book is very similar to the concepts of 50 Shades of Grey. Yet, there's no doubt Nora was held captive, but what she never expected was to fall, irrevocably, in love with her captor Julian. Julian has a complicated and traumatic background and he has decided against going the traditional route in wooing Nora and has decided almost like caveman-style on steroids to take her and make her his. This is also irrevocable. This book is dark, it's painful, erotic and definitely well-written. AZ has created two characters who become inseparable and there's no going back. I can't romanticize this aspect, it is what it is.

Narrator: I thought the narrator was excellent. Shirl Rae performed very well.

Barely could finish. no real character developmen

I struggled to get through. I never got a connection to the characters and myself not caring it they lived or not. I kept thinking something big would happen.

Didn't get it.

I couldn't relate to the heroine in this book. The writing and narration were good, but I can't imagine being a woman completely removed from her life with nothing else but a guy who kidnapped her coming to visit her for sex and that being enough for her. Talk about somebody who needs a life! I realize this was what the book was about, but it wasn't for me. I need MORE from my romances and storylines. It seemed like a rehashing of Twilight/50 Shades with kidnapping thrown in for good measure.

yick - sorry this one gave me the creeps

Don't get me wrong - I won't judge anyone who enjoyed this book. Everyone has their own kinks! But something about the way this was written reminded me wayyy too much of real life kidnappings with sexual abuse.

First of all - the sex happened instantly, which is a big turn-off for me as an erotic/romance fan. Like whoa...I didn't even get to feel anything for the characters yet! I just didn't care what happened in the end and found myself being extremely turned off - so I had to quit it.

However, this author's other book 'The Krinar Chronicles' I enjoyed thoroughly. So eh, not sure why this one wasn't my cup of tea.

Different and intriguing

If you hang in there thru the first of this book, you will be completely drawn on... Different view of romance, darker then 50 Shades... Looking forward to the second book to see how the story progresses...

Conflicted by how much I liked this book...

The book went above my expectations... I, like Nora, wanted to hate Julian... He operated outside of normal morality. He didn't seem to have any remorse for his actions or for her emotional torment. Ultimately, I craved more info on him as well. Crazy conflicting. Great book... Never had a book make me see the allure of the darker side like this book...
