This cowboy is not my weakness.

I guess I am truly not a romance fan or I didn't read the description well enough to realise what I'd be getting into because I found this achingly slow, drawn-out and a pretty darned silly - though I llike horses and cowboys which is probably why I tried it. This is my first book by this author. I am only giving it three stars because I feel it might have more merit for people who know what to expect and obviously the series has a lot of fans so maybe I'm just too jaundiced. I think I would have prefered a female reader too with all this internal anguishing and heart palpitations, the male reader drawls it out in laconic cowboy style and I kept finding myself rolling my eyes wondering how he could say all this stuff with a straight face. I agree with the reader who said the heroine might have moved on after 7 years - the heartbreak being that she slept with the man for a week (a whole week, mind) all these years ago in which she (or both of them) were convinced they'd discovered true love only for things to go amiss. Call me a cynic but no matter how much amazing sex they had in those memorable seven days, it's hard to think of it as more than a fling, let alone feel for her burning lasting grudge at being 'abandoned' and cruelly wronged. But it appears that quick tumble pretty much stopped her life until he came back to town. Like lots of romance novels things between them could be cleared up in about five minutes if he'd only tell her his reason for taking off but that would make it too easy and he's a tongue-tied, love-struck cowboy with lots of arrogant male pride (but a soft vulnerable center.). So whenever they run the risk of having an honest conversation, one of them takes offence and flounces off in a snit. I hope things pick up in the second half because this is seriously soppy, a lot of wistful sighing and if only's and yes, she does join an internet dating service which is just as well because that's about all that happens in the first half and I'm hoping for at least one or two plot twists if I'm to make it to the end of this book. I haven't read any of the others in the series so I can only assume that Connor and Tricia had an equally tortuous relationship but for those who care you'll be happy to know they are sickeningly in love and having sex about every five minutes even though she's nine months pregnant and large as a house.

Worth a Credit!

I really enjoyed this book. However, it was hard to believe that the female lead in the book would waste away for 7 years over being dumped. I think 7 years is a long time to pine away for someone, not to date, not to get on with her life. Then suddenly the object of her misery returns to town and of course all of her feelings for him return full force, along with bitterness and distrust towards him, but she can’t seem to stay away from him. I couldn’t help feeling for both of these troubled people. The eventual sweet seduction that Brody begins gets through Carolyn’s defenses, but one misunderstanding after another seems to impede them. For me the best part of the book was when Carolyn decides to join a website dating/matching service. With all the male interest I would have thought it would have boosted her confidence more. All in all an interesting read/listen and much better than I expected.

This story is real not fairytale

Jack Garrett did a great job. LLM you really understand about “real life and hardships with people and their four pawed companions” we all need someone or a four paw pal. I’m used to fairytale books. A good story line to get me away from my own life of hardship. Like the old commercial “Calgon take me away” LLM - you opened my eyes to see a perspective of why seeing the true picture (not fairytale) can be more enlightening to listen to too. Love the rescue pets too. Winston the kitty was Awesome! You get wrapped up in their stories too. Thanks for a great story!!!

Love modern cowboys

The one thing I have a problem with is that she mentions Slade Barlow from Montana as one of the online men Caroline gets a smile from. It said that he had a nine year old boy and was a widower. In the book Big Sky Country Slade Barlow is the sheriff and has a step daughter from a previous marriage. He doesn't have a son until the end of the book. So did his wife die or did she make a mistake using the same name? Makes me wonder.

Nice Book

This is nice book to listen to however I think the ending was a little rushed and unfinished. Enjoyable when traveling but short.

Couldn't finish it

Could not get into the story or the performance. The plot sounded great in the summary but the story just never took off - I felt like, instead of a bright and sizzling fabric, I was seeing an old, dusty version.

The Creed Legacy

What did you love best about The Creed Legacy?

I enjoyed Linda Lael Miller's smooth easy , ease. in telling the everyday lives of two broken people.

Have you listened to any of Jack Garrett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoyed Jack's easy "cowboy' smoothness and charm. This is the first time I've heard him and really, I listened.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Sometimes small town gossip aint always bad or is it?

Good on sale, but don't waste a full credit.

This was only a mediocre listen. I agree with other reviewers -- about the absurdity of Carolyn pining for seven years for a man that ran out in middle of the night. I also thought Brody was a bit arrogant ( I was actually cheering for Carolyn to give him a swift kick and throw him out…but that didn’t happen). However, he does finally put forth a little effort, but Carolyn responds by completely freaking out. If you know alcohol makes you senseless (or just plain crazy and emotionally unstable), would you really drink while on a date???

With that being said, please know that the story was not insufferable. My favorite moments of the book didn’t involve the interaction between the two main characters. I couldn’t help but chuckle when Carolyn arrives for a date with another man and is greeted by his daughter holding a sign telling her to go away! I also enjoyed the “Someone likes your picture” automated voice and could actually picture Carolyn’s computer exploding from being so “liked”. I kept listening just find out what happened seven years ago. I am glad I got this one on sale, but doubt I will re-listen to it.
