Publisher's summary

The Carsons of Mustang Creek: three men who embody the West and define what it means to be a rancher, a cowboy and a hero in this brand-new series from the queen of Western romance.

Slater Carson might be a businessman by trade, but he's a cowboy at heart - and he knows the value of a hard day's work under the hot Wyoming sun. So when he sees troubled teen Ryder heading down a dangerous path, he offers the boy a job on the ranch he shares with his two younger brothers. And since Ryder's temporary guardian is the gorgeous new resort manager, Grace Emery, Slater figures it can't hurt to keep a closer eye on her as well.

Grace Emery doesn't have time for romance. Between settling in to her new job and caring for her ex-husband's rebellious son, her attraction to larger-than-life Slater is a distraction she can't afford. But when the past catches up to her in Mustang Creek, she'll discover just how far Slater will go to protect what matters most - and that love is always worth fighting for.

Boring book and worst narration..

So, I’m at 54% and absolutely nothing has happened. You could have taken the sex out, made it a YA and had it about Ryder, who is 14, since his name is used 341 times in this book, according to my iPad. And, wow! Slater is used 524 times, that’s a lot considering this is only a 320 page book. That tells you that the author really, really liked the name of her hero. His name is on every single page, and twice on some. It’s like LLM didn’t want us to forget Slater’s name for a minute. Grace’s is used 479. Seriously?

Half the book and they’ve talked about her business, his business, Ryder, Mace and his mother’s vineyard and Drake’s running the ranch, and how Daisy came to be, and had sex in the old bunkhouse. This is why I’ve started reading mystery/suspense/murder/stalker/kidnapping/romance/whatever type books. They keep you interested, not wondering at 54% if something is ever going to happen to make the book interesting, which it never did. Grace did have a stalker but you knew who it was and the solution to that problem was so anticlimactic it wasn’t even worth having him in the book. Yeah, I can see this being my last book by LLM. She has her die-hard fans and they think that all she writes is wonderful but I could never be that kind of fan.

This had the usual three swearwords, nothing more. There were a couple of sex scenes but I skimmed them because of the narration. And nothing led up to it, anyway.

Overall, it was a really boring book and the only reason I finished it was because I paid $6.49 for it, and I very seldom ever pay that much for a book. Of my 1300+ books I have in my Amazon library this one is right up there in my top 5 of the worst books I’ve read. Sorry, LLM. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because I liked the family, but not the storyline.

As to the narrator: Wow, wow, wow! The worst narrator EVER! He has a very deep voice and never even tried to sound woman-ish. Whether it was Grace, Blythe, Raine or Daisy (she’s 11), they all sounded like a man. And he reads with no emotions whatsoever: no laughter, no whispering, no anger, no yelling, no nothing. When Slater and Grace had sex I had to skim over it because it sounded like two men together, but that wasn’t the kind of book I was reading. I have to wonder why 63 ratings show up on this book but NOT one written review, until mine.

Roped Again!

The combination of Linda Lael Miller and Jack Garrett has once again roped me and reeled me into another great small town romance and both satisfied me and left me wanting more.

Feminism: B-

The guy proposed to the girl two weeks after meeting her. That's my main complaint. If it wasn't for this, it was a pretty good story and would have earned an A- in the feminism category. The narrator is terrible and can't make distinct voices.

Voice made it impossible continue

I couldn't believe how monotonous this story was, the voice made it impossible to go any further than the third chapter. The storyline was weak, and over complicated. I really wanted to like it, but couldn't make it past the fourth chapter without continuing to roll my eyes every few seconds.

Great storyline!

Love her books. This one had some editing issues, words cut off. Kinda hard to follow sometimes.
