Publisher's summary

"Regrets leave you with nothing but heartburn and heartache."

A knock on the door brings Lauren Ballard news of her husband's death and his adultery. All at once, Lauren finds herself alone, wounded, widowed and expecting a child. When her strict and demanding father falls ill, Lauren reluctantly heads home. It isn't long before she finds herself regretting her decision. Her father's resort places her in constant contact with Kyle Ashcroft, her high school sweetheart who she left without so much as a goodbye. Now that she's returned, Kyle has questions - questions she's not prepared to answer.

One look at Lauren, and Kyle realizes he's still in love with her, though his wounded pride would have it otherwise. The pastor in him knows he needs to help the broken woman before him, but as the man she betrayed years ago, he wants to scream "serves you right." When the truth of why she left him all those years ago surfaces, her betrayal cuts deeper than he thought, and has Kyle regretting and questioning every decision he's ever made.

Will Lauren and Kyle be able to reconcile despite Lauren's betrayal, or will they be left with nothing but regrets?

Forgiveness and regrets

After listening to the first book in this series by Michelle Lynn Brown, I was anxious to listen to Rehearsals and Regrets. This one was a much better story for me than the first one. I loved the story line and the depth of the characters. Julie Lancelot did a remarkable job narrating the story, giving the emotion that was expected. I can't wait to listen to more from both of these talented women.

Excellent

This book didn’t follow book one in this series. Which is a good thing, because I didn’t care for book one.
Of the 3 in the series, this was my favorite.
Regarding second chances, this book shows that God forgives when we ask. It also reinforces that there is nothing that can separate us from God’s love!

Even Better Than Brides and Betrayals

This is in the category of religious romance. I really enjoyed the first book in the series called Brides and Betrayal, so that I readily accepted the similar opportunity for this book, Rehearsal and Regrets.

I am usually a listener of secular, contemporary romance books, but find an "innocent" romance a nice break once in a while. That is the case with this book. As much as I liked the first in the series, this was much, much better.

The material was much deeper, in the opening Lauren finds out that her husband was in an accident and died. The reason for this accident and all the twists and turns that follow are so much deeper. They send Lauren on a path that crosses, what seemed to be, all the mistakes in her life. Beginning with her estranged father becoming very ill, to the love of her life that she mysteriously left in high school.

There is one drawback in the writing, in my opinion. Every other sentence seems to have the character praying. I appreciate the author's intent, but I felt it is a bit over-the-top. We get it, they are Christians and they are trying to work it out with God's leading. This, however, is a matter of personal taste.

Julie Lancelot is a performer who is able to tell the story in a way that you forget that you are listening to narration. She is able to step back and not distract the listener with her performance. I think performers like that this are very hard to come by, so I appreciate the talent.

Note: There is a hot button issue that if I mentioned it will ruin the listening experience and spoil the book.

Learn to deal with regrets

--I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

As the second in the series, this book deals with lots of regret. As a high school senior, Lauren is faced with a huge decision which will impact her life in ways that are unimaginable. Her relationship with her high school sweetheart is abruptly ended due to her leaving. She marries a man in a loveless marriage, who later is killed in a car accident. She is beckoned back home to see her dying father and face all of her ghosts. She deals with her horrible childhood, the decisions she made and will be making and the new/continuing relationship with her high school sweetheart Kyle. Will they be able to work through it all? It amazed me how easily Kyle was able to get through some of it, but in this faith based novel, he was able to use this and get through. I liked having Lauren's brother Ian as a huge supporting character, and getting to know her dad and Aunt Darcy. These real life situations are interesting and keep you listening.

Julie Lancelot again provides an well performed and emotional drama.
