Publisher's summary

We live in a culture that more and more questions authority, truth claims, and traditional beliefs. So what are we to believe about the authority and trustworthiness of a book that is thousands of years old? Is God's word truly inerrant? How is it different from other religious texts? Why should we trust its claims?

In Why Believe the Bible?, esteemed Bible teacher John MacArthur asks - and definitively answers - these questions and many more, including:

  • Is the Bible the word of God?
  • Can we prove the Bible is true?
  • How did the Bible come to be?
  • What does it mean that the scriptures are "inspired"?
  • What did Jesus believe about God's word?
  • Who decided which books were part of the Bible?

Skeptics, new Christians, and longtime believers will find in this accessible audiobook clear answers to vexing questions about the book that has arguably had more impact on the world than all other books combined.

Includes a Bible reading plan with study tips and an appendix with helpful tools for Bible study.

fundamentalism 101

I mistakenly thought this book would explain a Christian's perspective on why the bible is relevant, not a tortured logic of "the bible says it is true and if you approach it as being true and 100 percent accurate and you are the one mistaken or misunderstanding if you ever suspect otherwise, you will find it to be inerrant".
the rest is fundamentalist theology. I am intrigued by the part where he mentions talking to a room of mostly Jewish students and expressing his opinions to them resulting in his condemnation and harassment as being his suffering for christ. Maybe it was something else; he did not mention his actual message. is it because he was afraid of the readers reaction?
he also seems to have no clue why butterflies visit flowers.
you probably want to avoid this book, especially if you are catholic, gay, or of any non-fundamentalist persuasion.

Misleading Title

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book makes you think its about why a person should believe the Bible because of evidence or even philosophically. Its pretty much a book for pastors to be more conservative in their beliefs and that they should take their Bible more seriously. Narrator is dry VERY DRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What could John MacArthur have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Change the narrator and also the title to something that leads people to think its about apologetics

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He was horrible made every chapter seem like it would drag on forever

Any additional comments?

Way better books out there this isn't a must read

Critical listening/reading

While not inerrant, his works are exceedingly applicable to an understanding of the faith for all (and especially useful to hone the beliefs of Christians today).

Not what I was looking for, but still great to see

I was hoping this book was focused on apologetics. What it does do is provide support for the inerrancy of God’s word as well as how faithful study of his word can impact (or rather should direct) a person’s life.
