Publisher's summary

Because God has made himself known in his word, a commitment to a high view of scripture is of paramount importance. Sadly, more and more people - not only from outside the church, but also from within - are denying the complete truthfulness of God's word.

Edited by pastor John MacArthur, this compilation of essays by a host of evangelical pastors, theologians, historians, and biblical scholars contends that the Bible is completely true and without error - a foundational belief for those who claim to honor God and his word. Exploring key Bible passages, events from church history, common criticisms, and pastoral applications, the contributors in this volume instill Christians with both the certainty and the courage to defend the inerrancy of God's word - the means by which God has revealed himself and awakens sinners from death to life.

Impactful short chapters

I liked that each chapter is concise and to the point. I believe any book like theses should be read in book form and given time to meditate on. However this audio book nonetheless has been a blessing in my life. The narrator has a good voice but his deep baritone voice can be distracting.

Critical reading for every believer!

Satan has been attacking the inerrancy, clarity, and sufficiency of God's Word from the beginning. This work carefully unfolds how generations of theologians, pastors, and teachers have erred, sold a bill of goods regarding how to know God and experience Him, and muddied what it is to trust in God and His Word wholly and completely as our source of all Truth, without error, and fully sufficient and clear for our salvation and life with Christ. Biblical inerrancy has been under attack and will continue to be under attack, and such an attack comes from within the Church. I highly recommend every believer read this book! It will make you wiser and more discerning.

Foundation of Christian Faith

The doctrine of Scripture’s inerrancy is central to Christian Faith. The articles in this book succeeded in demonstrate that. One of the most important conclusions it derived recognizes the direct link between the integrity of the biblical message and the affirmation of its inerrancy. The book also shows that the main attack directed at this doctrine came from inside and not outside the Church. The debate between liberalism and evangelicalism (fundamentalism) in Christian Faith is directly interwoven with biblical inerrancy and many articles in the book deals with the matter. At the end the reader has a sound understanding of this key concept of christian theology.

very compelling

Many religious books are penned everyday but this one is a cut above the rest. Scripture based in every way, MacArthur delivers the Holy Word of God.

No reason to read this book

If you already believe in Biblical Inerrancy, then there’s no reason to read this book. Because all it is is a collection of people who believe in Biblical Inerrancy repeating the belief that the Bible is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

If, however, you don’t believe in Biblical Inerrancy, and you want a defense or explanation of Biblical Inerrancy, then there’s no reason to read this book, because the writers all subscribe to “presuppositional apologetics,” which is to say, they all begin from the presumption that the Bible is inerrant, and then they argue from that premise, making one big circle of reasoning. They don’t explain, for instance, why multiple retellings of Paul’s conversion story appear in direct contradiction with each other (Acts 9, 22, and 26); they just dismiss it as an “apparent contradiction” and go back to quoting the Bible where the Bible says the Bible is inerrant.

Perhaps there is one reason to read it: in William Barrick’s contribution, “Can Error and Revelation Coexist? Inerrancy and Alleged Contradictions,” there’s an important admission that, “Due to the involvement of fallen men and women, errors do creep into the biblical text during its transmission.” Barrick makes the same admission for translations. “Such errors...reflect the work of fallen people who make mistakes in either translating or editing the Bible versions.” The next sentence does a lot to undermine the rest of the 477 pages/14+ hours of this book: “The doctrine of inerrancy applies to the original manuscripts and does *not* extend into scribal/textual transmission.”

In other words: the Bible is the perfect, inerrant, infallible Word of God. It’s just that (unless you have a seminary education and access to extremely rare extant manuscripts) you’ve never read it.

Don’t buy this book.

Powerful Collection of Writings

This Book was much better than I expected. Some sections are a bit more academic while others a written for “laymen”. The insights, truths, and concepts brought forth in this book are excellent! HIGHLY worth listening to! I plan on buying the Kindle or print edition soon!

One issue, the chapter listings are only numbers and do not explain where new sections begin nor who the author was of a particular section (they do saw who it was at the beginning of each section but by the end of each, I had usually forgotten who it was).

Awful narration

Driest narrator imaginable. Completely monotone, almost impossible to focus on. The actual book is good, but would be better to simply read

Four stars

The narration and the middle of the book were a little dry but it certainly delivers.
