Publisher's Summary

We all love the benefits of technology and social media, but even with the incredible upsides, many of us suspect there are unintended negative consequences that are beyond our control. We've lost perspective, even perhaps ourselves. In this timely and life-changing new audiobook, New York Times best-selling author and pastor of LifeChurch.tv Craig Groeschel encourages listeners who are hungry to regain control over their lives and put Christ first again. He walks them through biblical values that all Christ followers know are essential but are even more important for our maxed-out, selfie-centered world.
The more you compare, the less satisfied you are. The more we interact online, the more we crave face-to-face intimacy, but the harder it is to find. The more filtered our lives become, the more challenging it is to be authentic. The more information about the pain in the world we're exposed to, the more difficult it is to care.
It's time to refresh and rediscover our understanding of the biblical principles that life with Christ brings: contentment, intimacy, authenticity, compassion, rest, and more. Groeschel taps in to some of the most up-to-date studies on the effects of social media on our emotions and our friendships. And he offers real-life examples of how we struggle with social media, how it masks our real struggles, and how we can reclaim a Christ-centered life.
With helpful appendices like the "10 Commandments of Using Social Media to Strengthen Your Faith" and "Creating Safeguards for Your Digital Devices", you'll find #Struggles to be just the guide to bring balance and real-life engagement to your everyday life.

Freedom to CONNECT

Any additional comments?

Being from the generation right before the internet, I can appreciate what life was pre- and post internet. I noticed almost immediately when I had regular access to the internet how 'captivating' it was becoming....and THEN Social Media hit me. From 2006 to current, I've been addicted! I really am THAT person. I rue the day I bought my first smart phone, and yet... This book hit me and freed me from wondering "WHY" am I #struggling so bad with my life? Being good enough, smart enough, friendly enough, witty enough, patient enough, pretty enough, fit enough, Christian enough.... #Struggles pointed me to a HUGE cause of my struggle. I appreciate the FREEDOM I will soon have from taking a heart look at my internet connection.

Really makes you reevaluate your Tech lifestyle

Like all Millenials, I take my mobile phone 'to bed' with me, except I don't mean that I sleep with it, but it's definitely on my bedside table - charging. And no, it's never switched off! So I occasionally hear the pinging from my What's App account when those 'mad', insomniac, or transatlantic friends of mine send me that Oh so important/interesting/must see video! & thus disturbing my sleep.

Only one problem: I'm not a Millennial. I'm a Baby Boomer! So I've observed everything that he's observed and been concerned about, and I should know/do better!! This is a very informative book. It makes you stop and look at exactly what you're allowing yourself to be sucked into… sleepwalking into the devil's trap of idolatry.

So, last night I switched off my phone before I went to sleep and, didn't look at it again until after I did my morning devotional, had my breakfast AND had a meeting with my Physiotherapist. And guess what? The world didn't end! Would you believe that?!!!

So now, I'm going to give myself periodic 5 minute breaks during the day, and build up to taking a sabbatical from my iDevices every week - on the Sabbath!

Definitely a book worth listening to. Many times.
