Publisher's summary

Why do we expect justice? Why do we crave spirituality? Why are we attracted to beauty? Why are relationships often so painful? And how will the world be made right? These are not simply perennial questions all generations must struggle with, but, according to N. T. Wright, are the very echoes of a voice we dimly perceive but deeply long to hear. In fact, these questions take us to the heart of who God is and what He wants from us.

For 2,000 years, Christianity has claimed to solve these mysteries, and this renowned biblical scholar and Anglican bishop shows that it still can today. Not since C. S. Lewis' classic summary of the faith, Mere Christianity, has such a wise and thorough scholar taken the time to explain to anyone who wants to know what Christianity really is and how it is practiced. Wright makes the case for Christian faith from the ground up, assuming that the reader has no knowledge of (and perhaps even some aversion to) religion in general and Christianity in particular.

Simply Christian walks the listener through the Christian faith step by step and question by question. With simple yet exciting and accessible prose, Wright challenges skeptics by offering explanations for even the toughest doubt-filled dilemmas, leaving believers with a reason for renewed faith. For anyone who wants to travel beyond the controversies that can obscure what the Christian faith really stands for, this simple book is the perfect vehicle for that journey.

Excellent Book

This is not just a rehash of Mere Christianity. It explores the Christian faith from Wright’s perspective. Either you like Wright and want to explore the Christian faith more, or Wright isn’t for you as he is perhaps “too mystical,” or finds meanings that aren’t traditional. I enjoy seeing things from a different perspective, especially from a man who is clearly devoted to God and Jesus and is doing his best to discover more. I want to know more. I want to read the scriptures with fresh eyes. I recommend the book for those just starting in the faith as it provides an intelligent explanation of what we believe, but I also recommend it for those wanting to know more and explore their faith.

Relevant presentation of eternal truth

The author does a good job of keeping you engrossed in the wide variety of topics, by using the analogy of echoes in the voice which unite the book. The book covers many relevant Christian themes. And makes for a good read or listening to for the experience Christian or the novice. The audio performance was perfect.

Profoundly Christian

What did you love best about Simply Christian?

The clarity with which N.T. Wright states what it means to be Christian.

Any additional comments?

This book is in the tradition of what has been called the Christian Classics. A must read for all who claim for themselves the title of Christian and for those who don't to understand what Christianity should be about.

Dense.

This book is a scholarly take on explaining what Christianity is and its place in the world. The author is often presenting juxtapositions in an effort to explain the objective focal point of Christianity in modern society.

Excellent book

Ignore people that try to paint N.T. Wright as liberal. He is not and this book is the farthest thing from liberal. Simply Christian is a sort of Mere Christianity for our day. Because Wright is Anglican there is a slight bent toward a sacramental way of living and this comes out in his discussion of baptism, the Eucharist and what happens in Christian worship. Being Episcopalian myself, I found this refreshing. The narrator is excellent and I've recommended this book to many.

Simple yet deep

The narrator sounded very much like the author himself. the book was very thought-provoking and easy to understand. And yet I will have to read it over again a few times to fully understand everything that he had to say. The bottom line is that I highly recommend this book. If you are Christian agnostic or atheist it will give you something to think about.
