Publisher's summary

D. A. Carson, one of today's most notable Bible scholars, introduces the irony, scandal, and greatness of the work done on the cross. How are Christians to approach the central gospel teachings concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus?

The Bible firmly establishes the historicity of these events and doesn't leave their meanings ambiguous or open to interpretation. Even so, there is an irony and surprising strangeness to the cross. Carson shows that this strange irony has deep implications for our lives as he examines the history and theology of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.

Scandalous is the latest addition to the Re:Lit series, which highlights important theological truths in accessible and applicable ways. Both amateur theologians and general listeners will appreciate how Carson deftly preserves weighty theology while simultaneously noting the broader themes of Jesus' death and resurrection. Through exposition of five primary passages of Scripture, Carson helps us to more fully understand and appreciate the scandal of the cross.

Wonderful, BIBLICAL analysis of the person and work of Christ

Loved the depth and knowledge Dr. Carson brings to these fundamental Christian doctrines. Also, the writing was engaging and not the least bit boring!

Contant good audio quality, not so much

Very often in the book there’s a gap where the first word or words of a line are absent as if the mic was an auto sensing mic and it didn’t pick up the first couple words of the narrator reading ...very distracting and disappointing

A bit more of the rest of the story.

Presenting more of the context of biblical accounts brings these truths alive. Carson does a great job adding details one readily misses as the Scriptures are read without deliberately considering culture and context. The illustrations are great tools to delve the reader to a deeper understanding of the Scandalous death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Another great book by Carson

This is an interesting & provoking look at the Crucifiction & the Resurrection that I listened to in preperation for Easter this year. It is yet another great look at 2 pre-eminent sunjects to Christians. Carson gives a conservative, theologically sound & rich interpretation of events, words, & phrases that left me in awe of the old, old story.
