Get ready to be awed by God!

Where does Romans: The Greatest Letter Ever Written, Part 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I originally purchased this for long car rides, as I love to listen to a good sermon while driving. I listened to a couple of sermons and wasn't getting much out of it. I decided to try it at home in my quiet time and was mesmerized! The love for our Saviour just oozes out of John Piper's heart. If you've ever read any of his books, you know what I mean. I'm only on the 7th sermon, each about 30 minutes long, and he's only half way through Romans 1. I've taken about 8 full pages of notes with many highlights, underlines and explanation points! If we could only grasp the power that is in this amazing book, John definitely is illuminating the way. Powerful sermons! I can't wait to get up every morning to devour God's Word. Listener be warned - I gave one of John Piper's books on tape away because I got nothing out of it and that is because I was listening while driving- John Piper books require that you be fully focused if you want to be completely awed by the crazy amazing love and power of God in his sermons!!! They are just that rich - and you need to have the Bible in front of you, to see the truth. It's all Scriptural.

What did you like best about this story?

I've only gone through such a small portion but I love the detail he gives in explaining the true meaning of grace. It is God's empowerment that he freely gives to his beloved if we just knew enough to cry out for it with all of our hearts!

Which character – as performed by uncredited – was your favorite?

The fact that Paul was such a ruthless, wicked and pious "religious" man who was not seeking Christ - and yet God had a plan for him. God chose him at birth and allowed him to go his own way until the time He already allotted. Reminds me that nothing is impossible for God! He's already working out the plan for our unsaved loved ones. This helps me persevere in prayer - knowing and believing it is all His, and I can rejoice and be at peace with that.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'm only such a little way into it but there's much said about the "obedience of faith" and God has been speaking to me about obedience. I'm a very intimidated speaker. Piper makes a comment that we are all gifted - he may be ministering to me but I am gifted to reach those who he can't reach. Reminds me of a book my husband and I read. I was blown away by it but he didn't get that much out of it. We are all on different walks so when I listened to Piper the first time, I may have not been ready for what he was teaching. What God has enabled me to understand now is to be shared with those in my circle and it will not go void, if I am faithful to be sharing it!!! Praise the Lord!!!
