Publisher's summary

The subject of the present audiobook is the form of yoga known as Raja yoga. The aphorisms of Patanjali are the highest authority on Raja yoga and form its textbook. The other philosophers, though occasionally differing from Patanjali in some philosophical points, have, as a rule, acceded to his method of practice a decided consent.

The first part of this audiobook comprises several lectures to classes delivered by the present author in New York. The second part is a rather free translation of the aphorisms (sutras) of Patanjali, with a running commentary. Effort has been made to avoid technicalities as far as possible and to keep to the free and easy style of conversation.

In the first part, some simple and specific directions are given for the student who want to practise, but all such are especially and earnestly reminded that, with few exceptions, yoga can only be safely learnt by direct contact with a teacher. If these conversations succeed in awakening a desire for further information on the subject, the teacher will not be wanting.

SUPERB! INSTRUCTIVE, INSPIRING. LIKE I WAS THERE!

Vivekanada was so articulate in expressing these difficult subjects of Yoga. I learned so much and enjoyed the whole production.

dont know what to say...

i started with business books on audible to become rich and famous. went through some hard times and dissalusionment and became depressed relying on zombie apocalypse books and alcohol to get me through... started with Mountain man series:) which i loved. progressed to various forms of sci fi books as a wonderful evening distraction in my solitude.

I have over 120 books now. it feels like somehow they all led me to this book.

Excellent and informative

This is mandatory reading for many in depth Adept occult lists. And rightfully so! The book and the explanation breaks down Yoga and explains it like never before. Not the physical aspects although important and touched upon here; but the spiritual. Much of the Yogic seekers today believe they are pro’s because they can warrior pose and sun salutation all day. But, without spirituality and deep understanding it’s like having a pool but not being able to swim. A must read for those serious about learning!

Learn Pronunciation

Great book! A classic on the nature of reality. One thing drove me crazy though, the narrator mispronounces the name of Pantanjali 100% of the time. I even asked my meditation teacher who is Indian if it was right and he said that is not how it is pronounced. It’s a small thing I would still recommend this to everyone I just think if your are going to be a professional narrator at least learn the words.

Important for true healing

Hearing these words and teachings, discovering that everyone had the ability to harness their internal tools for bringing themself back to their true state of peace and joy is extremely important. I wasn’t raised in a home that taught you naturally possessed the tools within and with just alittle practice, great grounding is there. After learning to meditate about three years ago, so many new things have been opening up to my awareness. It was just something at first to help with my anxiety and depression. Now it’s the greatest internal therapy I could have ever dreamed of and so much more. ❤️

Best Narration I’ve found

Other version with a different narrator was awful so it was nice to hear someone with good enough pronunciation and flow. Recommend this Raja Yoga version over all others so far!
