Publisher's summary

The craftsman uses various instruments (hammers, forges, anvils) to shape his tools. Some of his work now lies on a junk pile, broken, outdated, dull, rusty. There, heaped in a cobwebbed corner, they have become useless, never fulfilling the purposes for which they were created. Other tools are still on the anvil, being melted down, molten, changeable. They wait on the anvil, being shaped by the craftsman's hammer, becoming in the sometimes painful process what they were meant to be.

These become tools of usefulness; sharpened, primed, defined, mobile. They lie ready in the craftsman's tool chest, available to their master, ready to fulfull their calling. As Max Lucado draws these parallels we realize we are all there, somewhere in the Craftsman's shop.

Lucado inserts personal stories

I've listened to this recording at least 6x during my morning commute. There's alot of good content in here. It has 49 short chapters that emphasize we are living a purpose-driven life and we need courage to live that life. His "God is a blacksmith shaping his tools over the anvil" metaphor effectively. I enjoyed listening to his stories about his father and how he always encouraged Max to be his best. He's a very good story teller and this is a high quality recording. Recommended.

Needs to be updated

As you would expect with a Max Lucado book, the content is great, if you can get past the over-dramatization of the narrator and the unnecessary and annoying background music. This book cries out for an updated audio version, perhaps one read by Ben Holland, as are so many of Max Lucado's books. Until then, I've given up and begun to read the book.

Had to read it twice

Any additional comments?

I normally listen to audiobooks while I drive. This one was so good that I switched drivers and listened to it again to take notes on each part. Very well done for the spiritually minded listener.
