Publisher's Summary

New Seeds of Comtemplation is one of Thomas Merton's most widely read and best loved books. Christians and non-Christians alike have joined in praising it as a notable successor in the meditative tradition of St. John of the Cross, the Cloud of Unknowing, and the medieval mystics, while others have compared Merton's reflections to those of Thoreau. New Seeds of Contemplation seeks to awaken the dormant inner depths of the spirit so long neglected by Western culture, to nurture a deeply contemplative and mystical dimension in our lives.

Pure holy inspiration!!!

Work of spiritual art coupled with superb performance which lifts the soul to find true self in God's silence and his word made flesh. Sometimes one feels it is not Merton speaking but God revealed. Read and listened twice and could do several times more with great joy.

Call to awake beyond "believing" or getting better

No summary is possible. Challenge upon clarifying challenge to our ego based holiness strategies to awaken from separateness and unworthiness. Need to listen beyond the Catholicism.
Only helpful after a life of chasing answers and prizes is seen as empty. And you've lost interest in Lucy's invitation to try to kick the football again. "You're really close..." "try harder this time". Fits like a glove with Wilber's identification of "the Great Search" as mans compulsive ego reaction strategy to our program of "something is wrong I must try to fix it/me..." Started "in The Garden"

Lots to think about...

There is a great deal to think about within this book. To me it felt like a book that will always have something to say and will be a companion for life... You can access it where you're at and wherever this may be on your journey of contemplation and relationship with our God...
