Publisher's summary

This is a book about discovering what we really need. There are a lot of second-best options, but we weren't made to live a second-best life. Finding what we actually need is different than what we are often offered. There are many books full of opinions, steps and programs. This isn't one of them. This is about craving the things that matter. Things that don't just work, but last.

In a life that may seem to be all fun and games with an endless supply of balloons, author Maria Goff shows how this life is also lived with intentionality, passionate purpose, and a little planning - all of which make a life rich in legacy. But she had to figure out the help she needed first in order to live the beautiful life God wanted for her and wants for us.

Love Lives Here is a collection of stories that include the ways Maria and her husband, Bob, navigated family their way, without clear instructions or a road map. It's about what they learned to make their lives meaningful and whimsical and how they created a space for their family to grow together while they reached outward.

What a joy to finally meet "Sweet Maria"!

This is a work about true transparency and following God,not the world.I LOVED it! Our family read LOVE DOES by Bob Goff and I have seen Bob at speaking engagements. After learning quite a good deal about "Sweet Maria", it was wonderful to hear her tell God's story of their lives in her words. I admire and respect the Goff family and pray for them often.

Brave and beautiful testimony

I decided to listen to this book shortly after I listened to the book Love Does by Bob Goff. I loved hearing from what I knew must be the beautiful and special woman who has been married to Bob for all of these years. This book does not disappoint. I so enjoyed hearing some of the same stories from Sweet Maria's perspective. The artful incorporation of stories from throughout her life provide a brave and heartfelt testimony of the power of love, and how to use love to overcome life's inevitable challenges and difficulties. I felt like I could really connect and relate to the story teller on multiple levels and that she was speaking life and truth into some of the challenges I am currently facing. It was so inspirational. I am forever grateful that this book was written and narrated by the author. I will be recommending it to my friends and many of the friends I have yet to meet.

I don’t “do emotion” very well

Emotions are covered in vulnerability. Ugh! Why do emotion when logic can keep you safe and find a pathway to problem solving. Of course I know this is flawed thinking but it’s really how I think most of the time.

This is not a book I would have bought for myself. It was a gift. Good thing it came from someone I have a great dream of respect and admiration or I may have dismissed it completely.

This was not an easy read. So many other topics I’d rather be studying; politics, investments and business are much more safe.

If you can relate to any of this you may need to read this book. After all, this life is so temporary and love is perhaps the only thing we can take into the next life.

A Night of Sleeplessness

I had a really rough day one Sunday. My emotions were raw as I tackled, once again, a project I so desperately want to succeed at completing. I will complete it because it isn’t about me. It’s about God using in a mighty way, a young woman with the willingness to travel into the unknown and say, “Yes Lord,” to whatever he calls her to. But this particular day was the culmination of three weeks that proceeded it, with hours upon hours of work and prayer, but little to show for it. I climbed into bed at around 8:30 pm with every intention of getting lulled to sleep, listening to Maria’s book on Audible with the timer set. I kept readjusting the timer until 2 am. I woke back up at 6am to listen to the last two chapters and the epilogue. My heart feels full and I am praying that all of Maria’s encouragement through her humble sharing of the stories of her life will spark something in me to overcome my frustrations and finish my project - not because of my talent - but because of my peace that God will be faithful to complete what He Himself called me to do. Here’s my take away. “Love Lives Here” doesn’t work as a bedtime story. It’s power is in its inspiration to embrace life bravely, to accept healing and to offer it all back again in the form of love. My favorite verse in the Bible is in Isaiah 61:3... it talks about turning ashes into beauty. I know that will happen for the Goff’s lodge in Canada and also for my project. And my prayer for both is also found in this passage; that both will become “a planting of the Lord for the display of HIS slendor.” Thank you Maria for sharing from your heart and filling my heart, while failing to lull me to sleep. I can’t wait to see the beauty from ashes that God brings us both. With such gratitude ....

Tenderness and welcome

I don't think I've thought much about what "welcome" really means. Sweet Maria Goff embodies the notion, and every word in this book is proof. "Love Lives Here" is an invitation into relationship and community. It is a loving description of how the Goffs intentionally create safe spaces, warmth, and whimsy -- even in the most trying and painful of circumstances.
"Love Lives Here" works as both memoir and guidebook. The author models that intentionality by weaving memory with lessons learned. She explains her way forward. She doesn't simply arrive at conclusions, she shows her work.
While I have a printed copy of the book (supplied by the publisher), I chose to spend an Audible credit to listen to Maria tell her own story in her own voice. I am so glad that I did. Her speaks my voice is as warm and tender as the words she writes.

Sweet Maria nailed it!

What an excellent book and a great guide for keeping the family in tact when the world pulls us apart. She is obviously the steady to Bob’s creative adventures and the perfect other half to their innovative partnership. She uses her great pain for good and her transparent heart is incredible. I can’t wait to put what I learned in action. Thanks for writing!!

Sweet Maria has the perfect name: Sweet Maria

Sweet Maria is the perfect name for this sweet lady. This was an easy read where you can easily see Sweet Maria's gentle soul. This book was a great compliment to her husband' "Love Does" and "Everybody Always" books. Sweet Maria tells stories and lessons from her life with an open transparent heart. I like that. It is very clear to see her love for Jesus and how He is at the center of all she does. She will inspire you to be the be the best of who God created you to be and to not compare yourself to others. I truly enjoyed Sweet Maria's book. A must read for young women with a family!

“Jesus never had a problem with the people who had a lot of questions. He was concerned with the ones who thought they had all the answers.”

"When we are ourselves, it gives others the freedom to be who they are too."

"Hospitality is always a matter of the heart. It's not a condition of our home."

Boring story about someone else's life

Would you try another book from Maria Goff and Bob Goff - foreword and/or Maria Goff?

I might read a book of Bob's- never read one, but I did not like this book. We read it as part of a ladies Bible study and I just could not connect to it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Beth Moore

What didn’t you like about Maria Goff’s performance?

I can't put my finger on it

Any additional comments?

It felt like a book of someone else's memories and cliche's and there was a lot about a life that most people don't lead. It was like reading someone's positive FB posts and not enough about the real struggles and how to overcome, or where that ties in the Bible. Though I like positivity and I am sure (no doubt) that these people are God filled people, it read like a book of positive affirmations and one sentence life lessons or proverbs. You can get this book cheaper at a Christian book store too than on Audible and I would recommend that.
