Publisher's summary

Hurlbut's Story of the Bible has its roots in the old custom of parents telling their children stories from scripture. One of those parents who kept this custom particularly alive and meaningful was Dr. Jesse Lyman Hurlbut. Like many great works of literature, the stories that make up this book were told and retold innumerable times before being set down on paper.

Good Rendition

A very good rendition of classical biblical text. We have a long drive to church every sunday, and this audio (which I have burned onto discs) has been a great way to keep the kids entertained and learning bible stories at the same time. It hasn't been 'dumbed-down', but is very accurate story telling (even in some of those harsh old-testament stories. yikes!). The whole family enjoys this audio.

Engaging Narrator - True to the Bible Accounts

Would you listen to Hurlbut's Story of the Bible again? Why?

Yes, it's does an excellent job of telling the Bible stories without deviating from the true Bible accounts. It takes out the more graphic parts of some stories so it's kid friendly.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

His voice is very nice to listen to and he tells the stories in an engaging way.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was a long book comprised of over a 100 Bible stories so it's a nice one to listen to over time.

Any additional comments?

Great investment... I bought this with Whispersync and the cost was low to get the ebook and audiobook.

Captivating!

Our 5 year old son will request "a Bible story" and I have found none better than these written by Rev Hulrbut. Often we listen together and talk about them when over; I rarely give a 5-star rating to anything but these stories lifted from the pages of Scripture and put into easily understandable form are more than deserving! I've even had some things clarified for me through these wonderful Truths! :~)

Best Novel Version of the Bible Cover to Cover

This book can help many understand the Old Testament and then the New Testament. Jesse Hurbutt is very sensitive and leaves in geographical names and personal names of importance. As an adult I read the passage in Hurlbutt's and then read the passage in the Bible. I am a certified reading specialist and this helps one comprehend the Bible, causing one to focus on major movements in the Bible. Some passages are left out. As you know Genesis 34 and 38 take a break from the story of Joseph. They are left out. So this isn't a catch all, but a great tool to understand the Bible.

Still The Greatest Story Ever Told

This is a 5+,Hurlbut's Story of the Bible takes you back in time. From the begining to the end there's never a boring moment. I've read the Bible several times but I have never understood it as I do now. This is must read material for everyone,Christian or not. The events come alive and take you on a journey threw history. I found myself eagerly waiting for my next listen. Every home should have this book. Fantastic!!!

New Favorite Bible Storybook

I grew up with the Egermeier Storybook and honestly didn’t expect to find one I liked even better for my own children.. but this one is a new favorite! I also am so thankful for the audiobook! We play it almost every night and it is great for listening to before falling asleep and helping people to get back to sleep when they wake up in the night. Not because it’s boring, but because it is engaging and the voice is consistent and nice to listen to. For us, this is perfect!

Excellent investment

I burned this book onto something like 18 CD's, which my kids (7 and 9) listen to at bed time and in the car. I had bought a couple of other CD and tape collections for the same purpose, but none compared to this. Every single story you can think of is in this(and a bunch of stories you've probably never heard.) The stories are accurate and yet simple enough for elementary aged children on up. I enjoy listening to them and have learned a great deal. This is the best purchase I've made through Audible.
