Publisher's summary

Discover a parenting style that nurtures a healthy family and displaces fear as a motivator for behavior. Learn how to meet your child's three driving inner needs for security, significance and strength with the invaluable gifts of love, purpose and hope.

Modern parents are stressed out and tired. They’ve tried countless parenting books on the market, many of which are harsh, fear-based books that loving parents instinctively reject. As Christians, we frequently believe that the battle for a child's heart and soul is fought on the outside with rigid rules and boundaries, when in fact the opposite is true.

Dr. Tim Kimmel, founder of Family Matters ministries, offers a timeless look at parenting. Rejecting rigidity and checklists that don't work, Dr. Kimmel recommends a parenting style that is the opposite, emphasizing the importance of communicating the unconditional love that Christ offers and affirming this timeless message of grace to one's family. In Grace-Based Parenting, you’ll learn:

  • A parenting style that mirrors God's love, reflects His forgiveness, and displaces fear as a motivator
  • Why fear-based parenting is a guaranteed method to set children up for failure
  • How to provide a safe space for children to develop into functional adults with purpose, security, and inner strength

As we embrace the grace God offers, we begin to give it—creating a solid foundation for growing morally strong and spiritually motivated children. This revolutionary book presents a whole new way to nurture your family.

Not clear this version is abridged

It wasn’t clear to me that this version is abridged until it was announced at the end of the book. That was disappointing as I was under the impression I was purchasing the unabridged version. Better communication on this issue is needed by the seller.

Eye opening!!!

I'm a first time mom of a 2 year old. Both my husband and I come from non-Christian homes and wanted to learn more about Christian parenting. Learned a lot of wonderful things about loving like God loves. Plan on reading and re-reading this book over and over for the next 16 years!! Thanks so much! God bless!

Solid author with a good foundation for teaching.

Our Christian Therapist also loves this author and recommends content from them. We've read many books about parenting and coparenting. This is a good book and teaching to have available.

Not clearly labeled as being abridged

I enjoyed the book overall; however I was really disappointed to find out at the very end it was abridged. I am always careful to purchase unabridged versions and this bit of information did not make me happy. Otherwise, the content itself was helpful.

Fantastic book, but didn’t know it was abridged

This is a fantastic and really freeing book on parenting. However, I got to the very end and the book said, “Thanks for listening to this abridged version.” Aw man! So that a total surprise. If they make an unabridged version, go for that. Regardless, definitely get this book if you’re a parent—or if you want a better understanding of how God parents is with his grace.

Abridged version.

Don't waste your money! This is an abridged version. Very dissatisfied. The book was great until it just abruptly ended and stated it was abridged. Never saw this listed when purchasing.

A framework for parenting the way God treats us

I recommend this book to all parents! The grace-based approach really applies to all relationships not just parenting. Rather than focus on a set of techniques designed to modify behavior, Kimmel presents
