Publisher's Summary

Peter Scazzero learned the hard way: you can't be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. Even though he was a pastor of a growing church, he did what most people do:

Avoid conflict in the name of Christianity
Ignore his anger, sadness, and fear
Use God to run from God
Live without boundaries

Eventually God awakened him to a biblical integration of emotional health, a relationship with Jesus, and the classic practices of contemplative spirituality. It created nothing short of a spiritual revolution, utterly transforming him and his church.
In this best-selling book, Scazzero outlines his journey and the signs of emotionally unhealthy spirituality. Then he provides seven biblical, reality-tested ways to break through to the revolutionary life Christ meant for you. "The combination of emotional health and contemplative spirituality," he says, "Unleashes the Holy Spirit inside us so that we might experientially know the power of an authentic life in Christ."

Great content, read it on paper instead

This is the missing manual for modern American Christianity. It breaks through the chains of false identity placed on primarily rural, conservative Christians and explains how spiritual maturity and emotional health are inseparable.

You can't love your neighbor if you can't break through your emotional and relational baggage to actually love well.

That said, I'd recommend the paperback version of this content for two reasons:
1. You will probably want to easily refer back to certain lists and major points.
2. The author and reader has a persistent narrative tick: he actually enunciates every single question mark in the entire book as "quote" ... "end quote", instead of simply narrating each quoted phrase with the appropriate nuance. That no one caught and coached him on this during the recording process can only mean that it was an intentional aspect of the material: you have reached emotionally healthy spirituality when you no longer want to strangle the speaker for saying "quote" ... "end quote" over. and over. and over. and over again. ;-P

Quote/end quote

The amount of times the narrator says "quote" and "end quote" is enough to drive you bananas!! VERY distracting!
