Encouraging, Practical, & Worthwhile

This is a wonderful book that encouraged me when I was in a wilderness experience. Bob does a great job providing deep spiritual truths in a down to earth and practical way. I love the format of each chapter, it is really designed to help you reflect and study the topic of each chapter with thought provoking questions and additional scriptures to read. I am going through it a second time and I am taking away just as much, if not more than the first time. Even if you don't feel like you are in a wilderness experience, it still can convict and encourage you to deepen your relationship with God. Bob also provides lighthearted moments along the way that make you chuckle as they illustrate funny points about humanity. I listened to this book through Audible and the narrator was fantastic. He has a calming voice and speaks as if he is a wise father-like friend. It is worth a read!

Good and challenging.

What did you love best about Champions in the Wilderness?

Champions in the Wilderness is written by a man who knows what life is like. The book is practical, well written, and challenging, which is what I want in a devotional: something that challenges what I think and gives me insight into my God.

What three words best describe Lynn Benson’s voice?

Lynn Benson's voice is resonant and rumbling; it's nice, and pleasant to listen to. My daughter, listening to several days' worth with me, said, "His voice seems a little more suited to a thriller than a devotional. He occasionally takes pauses in odd-seeming places." I think we're both getting used to him, though.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Again, I was challenged in very good ways by the text as well as the questions Santos poses at the end of each chapter.

Any additional comments?

While the rush-rush part of my heart wishes we had a verse or two to read at the end of each listening session, the smart part of my heart loves the longish (i.e., John 6:1-63) passages Santos recommends to us. They keep me engaged with the Lord longer.
