Publisher's summary

Warning: If modern church culture makes perfect sense to you, and you always fit in seamlessly, don't listen to this. As for the rest of us....

While American church culture (and American culture at large) seems largely designed for the extroverted, it's estimated that half of the American population is introverted, and they're often left wondering how, even if, they fit in the kingdom of God. As one of them, popular radio host Brant Hansen brings news. It's wonderful, refreshing, and never-been-said-this-way-before good news.

In his unique style, Hansen looks to answer questions that millions of people carry with them each day:

  • If I don't relate to God as emotionally as others do, is something wrong with me?
  • How does one approach God, and approach faith, when devoid of the "good feelings" that seem to drive so much of evangelical church culture?
  • How does God interact with those who seem spiritually numb?
  • Is the absence of faith-based emotion a sign that God has moved on or was never there?
  • What if we aren't good at talking to people about our faith or good at talking to people at all?
  • What if I'm told I'm too analytical, that I "think too much"?
  • Where does a person who suffers from depression fit in the kingdom? Is depression a sure sign of a lack of faith?

This book is good news for people who are desperately looking for it. (And for their loved ones!)

It's also for those who want to believe in Jesus but inwardly fear that they don't belong, worry that don't have the requisite emotion-based relationship with God, and are starving for good news.

Blessed Are the Misfits is going to generate discussion and lots of it. It's simultaneously highly provocative and humbly personal. It's also leavened with a distinct, dry, self-effacing humor that is a hallmark of Hansen's on-air, writing, and public speaking style.

A breath of fresh honesty

Love the honesty and simplicity of the message. Brant's radio voice and interesting stories kept my attention. I also like that he kept the book rooted in the Bible without sounding preachy. This misfit is encouraged.

BLESSED are all who read this!

What an art of communicating such serious topics: meaning in life, worship, etc. in such a non-chalant way. So beautiful to be a part of the marginalized, get accepted and beloved!

Encouraging!

So encouraging - and good news - for those of us who have ever felt "less than enough", or wondered "what's wrong with me?"

Must Read for Every Pastor

This book articulated what I have thought my entire adult life. There isn't a cookie-cutter action that IS worship, and any act of service qualifies. Every minister needs to read this book, if they want to grow their flock. I don't mean simply increasing the number of people to whom they minister, but to help them to truly bring opportunities for spiritual growth to each person they serve.

Hilarious but to the point

If you don't think you belong because you're not like other Christians, and you don't think you're pure enough, then this book will enlighten you on how God will take you in even if you had a bad past with very open arms!

Misfits fit me well!

I listened to this book in two days! can't be more grateful for what Brant Hansen shared in this book. I never really tried to see if I'm autistic but I'm a super introvert youth pastor that gets very uncomfortable in crowd. Given that I serve in a church with a different ethnicity and culture with a Muslim background, I'm an absolute misfit and misunderstood.
This book helped me to see myself better, to see my kids better and to have a different and wider view of God.
Thank you Brant for reading your book, because I don't think any other person could read your mind better than you! And thank God for you and all He has done in you and through you!

So needed

Having felt like a misfit for much of my life, the title of this book really interested me. The material did not disappoint. I could relate to so much of what Mr Hanson talked about. I'm so glad he wrote this book because it made me feel like I was not the only one that felt they didn't fit in. I have a daughter struggling with the same thing, and now I have a resource to point her to. Thank you for making it available.
