Not very helpful

I feel like this book was not very helpful. It portrayed mainly narcissists who are willing to get help but as we all know most narcissists will not seek help because they never see that they have a problem.

helped me to understand the narcissist

this book helped me to see what behaviors I could change to stop the drama and take back control of my emotions. knowing why they behave that way helped me take back my own power.

I needed this book more then I knew. love yourself

I felt like this book was awakening. it may not fix your partner but I gave me the reassurance that let him go was the best and most important the only choice I have. I am codependent and have always been told that. this book hit home for me as if it was written about my partner and I. at first I had hope he could Chang but by the end I new after the 9 years I have been with him he will not. I listen to the first 20 mins everyday just to give me the affirmation I need to continue to be strong and stand up for my self. this book may not help everyone but it does if your just want the negative to stop. I loved it very very much it is just want I needed. I loved the 5 love languages maybe it will help where this book can't fulfill.

No Meat.

I found this rather slow and weak. When you are in a relationship with this type of person, you need tangible, practical help not philosophy.

Not helpful

I am living with a narcissistic and this is not all that helpful. It sounds more like treatment for a spoiled young kid who needs a swat on the bottom. My spouse is a narc with not 1 ounce of empathy. I will not be a doormat for any narc and I will not coddle their behavior. I do realize there is almost no hope for a narcissistic personality disorder. We’ve been in and out of Counselling and that is is only way of keeping the narc in line. Making them take ownership is the only way to open their eyes. I realize the writer is trying to help but I have first hand experience and this would never work for me.

Okay when only dealing with Narcissistic traits.

I think this is quite an unrealistic view of a true narcissist. The strategies mentioned could possibly help with someone who has narcissistic traits, but for someone who actually has a narcissistic personality this would probably only lead to prolong the suffering for the partner.

I found this a painful book as it played on my wishes that I could manage my partner to have a successful relationship even though I know this is unfounded in actual psychiatric research.

Ridiculous premise

If Amber is dealing with people who are simply self-absorbed and not pathological, the pointers could be valid. The problem is that those who truly have a personality disorder cannot be changed -- and certainly not into a "Loving & Selfless Person." So the entire premise is presented for the gullible target of somebody who can actually be very punitive, malignant, and unable to ever HAVE compassion nor empathy. If you are in such a relationship, the only cure for you is to GET OUT. Following Amber's advice will only lead to endless frustration -- and only those who've experienced it can genuinely understand.
