Here are three classic Alan Bennett adaptations, first broadcast on BBC Radio 4. "Say Something Happened": A naive, inexperienced social worker calls on an elderly couple. But does she need more help than they do?
"Two in Torquay": A middle-aged man and a middle-aged woman engage in polite conversation in a hotel on the Cornish Riviera. But neither is quite who they appear to be. Who is deceiving whom?
"A Visit from Miss Protheroe": Since Mr Dodsworth retired, he has had all the time in the world. Then he has a visitor from his old firm: Miss Prothero, who is eager to tell him all the news.

More of Alan's radio plays.

What made the experience of listening to Alan Bennett the most enjoyable?

I love Alan Bennet's stories and plays. It's not Talking Heads, but the stories are good and listening to Hugh Lloyd, Patricia Routledge and Judi Dench earlier on in their careers is also entertaining.

Would you recommend Alan Bennett to your friends? Why or why not?

Always. The stories are about ordinary people living and revealing something of their existence.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Each narrator is an accomplished artist. Look at the names. That's enough to make you want to listen.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is always a twist or little foible at the end. A delight to listen to.

Any additional comments?

Each story can be heard in one session and then revisited a few months later.
