Publisher's summary

The eruption of mass protests in the wake of the police murders of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner in New York City have challenged the impunity with which officers of the law carry out violence against Black people and punctured the illusion of a postracial America. The Black Lives Matter movement has awakened a new generation of activists.

In this stirring and insightful analysis, activist and scholar Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor surveys the historical and contemporary ravages of racism and the persistence of structural inequality such as mass incarceration and Black unemployment. In this context, she argues that this new struggle against police violence holds the potential to reignite a broader push for Black liberation.

The chapters are off

the book is GREAT. but the chapters are off. for example when I click on chapter 5 it says that is chapter 4. I use this for school and I want to be able to site the chapters right but it’s just not right here.

Raising the collective MIND!!

The author does a superb job at interweaving past, current and future elements underpinning the racially divided struggle. We, who have been pushed to a lesser subclass by the egregious elite, MUST constantly remind ourselves that their class' ONLY power derives from our divisiveness.

Read until your eyes bleed. Educate yourself until your minds bursts. Involve yourselves in the struggle until you realize that your pain is far from your own!

Saddening and enraging, but an absolutely NECESSARY and brilliant piece of work!!!!
