    Solid beginner's book

This book is a short, practical, easy to understand book on how couples can better manage money. It covers topics like how 401ks are better than the best hedge fund (tax-free) and how much small costs can add up if they're converted to investments.

If you're looking for a place to start, this is a great read. If you're looking for advanced ideas, then try another book.

Good for that first job and motivation

I'm less than a year out of college with a nice paying job for 2 yrs before heading to medical school. While I have no credit card debt, my paychecks were being spent on lil doo dads, dining out daily for lunch (Quizno's...mmmmm, toasty), and my morning grande white mocha with a blueberry bagel and strawberry cream cheese. It didnt bother me that I wasn't saving much of anything because I was under the impression I was young, should spend every dime and have fun now, will eventually have an MD, can save later after med school...that is, until I read this book!!

This book dramatically changed my spending habits and introduced me to the power of how time (starting now rather than 12 yrs from now after residency) can dramatically affect my retirement account (!). While a portion of the book does repeatedly discuss the fact that you need to save, it goes into more depth by showing you solid examples with numbers of what it will cost you if you don't start now and describes what type of investment vehicles to use to reach your desired goals (403b, Roth, 529) It also helped me work through the hassles of insurance, knowing how much I need, how to work finances with my lady, and what I will eventually need for a house.

As a recent college grad, I cannot praise this book enough for teaching me some of the ropes to a solid financial life and to be one of the few saving 18% for retirement at 23 rather than continuing to blow my dough out the expense column. It has taught me and motivated me enough to share it with others and given me the opportunity to help 3 fellow co-workers setup their retirement plans and create a good foundation. If you are new to the working world and looking for a coach to help you manage that new fat check, take a peek at this book/audio and I assure you that you won't be disappointed.

    Fascinating

The opening stories were the most applicable to me. The rest is helpful for my husband. Great perspective. Lots of details.

    Great book

Definitely worth a listen. This is the third David Bach book I've listened to, all have been good. I'm a big fan of his simple, no nonsense approach to personal finance.

    Great Advice!

I like how he breaks down his strategy over 9 steps. It conveys the importance of the subject without burdening the audience. I do wish he would re-write certain parts that are now outdated, such as, college costs and insurance options (HSA, FSAs, etc.). Overall, good book!

    short and sweet

to the point with nice practical example, easy listening, easy steps to implement. the only thing I would say is that it might be a little outdated, as it makes references to links on a site that are nowhere to be found, such as mutual funds helpers. overall, great book to zero in with wifey.
