A fun who did it.
I was looking for a change of pace in my audiobook reading. I came across this audiobook of a radio show “The Shadow”. I remember listening to “The Shadow” on the radio in the 1940s and 50s.
It always opened with “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Over the years of the show various actors played the hero Lamont Cranston. They were Frank Readick, Orson Welles, Bill Johnstone and Bret Morrison.
This show “Death Shows the Way” aired on December 3, 1939 and stars Bill Johnstone. In this story Lamont Cranston and Margot Lane go on a short trip to visit a friend. They get caught up in a jewel heist and murder. The story is only 24 minutes. I guess it was a half hour show allowing for the commercials. It was great to listen to one of the old radio shows again. This audiobook made a great relaxing escape.
William “Bill” Johnstone (1908-1996) was a big star in the Golden Age of Radio. He starred as “The Shadow”, was Inspector Cramer in “Nero Wolfe”, played Lt. Ybarra on “Philip Marlowe” and was “The Whistler”. He also was Lt. Ben Guthrie in “The Line-up” and played on many of the soap operas in the hay-day of radio.

The lovely Margot Lane.....
What did you love best about Death Shows the Way?
Lamar Cranston is going away for the weekend and his butler is packing to make sure the he will be correctly turned out.
A midget is acting like a child and he is horrible! An official thief!
