Publisher's summary

Society is broken. We can design our way to a better one.

In our interconnected world, self-interest and social interest are rapidly becoming indistinguishable. If current negative trajectories remain, including growing climate destabilization, biodiversity loss, and economic inequality, an impending future of ecological collapse and societal destabilization will make "personal success" virtually meaningless. Yet our broken social system incentivizes behavior that will only make our problems worse. If true human rights progress is to be achieved today, it is time we dig deeper - rethinking the very foundation of our social system.

In this engaging, important work, Peter Joseph, founder of the world's largest grassroots social movement - the Zeitgeist Movement - draws from economics, history, philosophy, and modern public-health research to present a bold case for rethinking activism in the 21st century.

Arguing against the long-standing narrative of universal scarcity and other pervasive myths that defend the current state of affairs, The New Human Rights Movement illuminates the structural causes of poverty, social oppression, and the ongoing degradation of public health, and it ultimately presents the case for an updated economic approach. Joseph explores the potential of this grand shift and how we can design our way to a world where the human family has become truly sustainable.

The New Human Rights Movement reveals the critical importance of a unified activism working to overcome the inherent injustice of our system. This book warns against what is in store if we continue to ignore the flaws of our socioeconomic approach, while also revealing the bright and expansive future possible if we succeed. Will you join the movement?

Encouraging!

Entering the world of community engagement and activism has been a wonderful journey. To continue to hear the common struggles, knowing these conversations are taking place is refreshing. But, we need the actions presented in this text to be realized on a larger scale for implementation. I encourage all to read this and share so we collectively can grow into a better tomorrow.

A realist idealist

I cannot thank Peter Joseph enough for his book. The author discusses many topics with a true ecological perspective. This is how our leaders should think when taking decisions. The book is filled with unanswered questions, yet our society dearly needs them to be asked. These questions are what should be in the mind of our leaders if we are to have a "human" future (pun intended).

This will definitely be a life-changing book for some readers.

Best book ever!

This book needs to be read by everyone. It should be on the curriculum in school. I believe Peter Joseph is right, the change to a new society and fundamental social and economic systems and institutions is inevitable. The question is, how much suffering of people and how much destruction of the planet do we have to cause before we change our ways?

Thank you Peter for all your inspiring words and thought-provoking ideas! You literally changed my life.

Too important to miss!

This is maybe the most important piece of media created. It details how and why we need to take the next step in human evolution: sustainability. It’s more important than any space race and establishes sustainability as a human right.

Great Book, Everyone Should Read

Peter Joseph is the only person who claims to be above the left-right paradigm (though he has a lot more in common with socialists than anyone else) and actually IS above that paradigm.

pure genious

what a compelling arguement when it comes to efficiency sustainability and general human responsibility to set standards of equality in such a way that benifits everyone. I may not agree with 100% with everything but it is difficult to challenge any of this. Peter Joseph has definitely done extensive research when it comes to the social psychological effects of our current economy and does a wonderful job at summarizing a few simple yet drastic changes with a systems approach to maximize efficiency and sustainability. if I had to point out something negative about this book it would be the pessimistic tone of the author but even that is rightfully used to help further make an example of how horrible and disproportionate things have been for majority of people in this world. there really is no excuse for things to be as bad as it has been so I can certainly understand any amount of pessimism and impatience when so many people outright dismiss this before even questioning or giving proper attention to what is being presented. thank you Peter Joseph, thank you to everyone at TZM.

This book has a very important message to humanity

I followed Peter Joseph's work for a long time and I really enjoyed this book. It summarizes what is wrong with global society. It also describes initial steps that can be taken to transition to the system which will ensure survival of our spices. A certain level of consciousness is required to understand the ideas presented, and it's important for human race to get to that level.

A great book and most relevant, to everything. I feel like I began looking for this book 25 years ago. Really gives our current global situation the perspective we need to see in order to move forward.

A must read

Indispensable info. A challenge to rethink our failed system, or die in a distopian nightmare.
