Publisher's summary

"The Mis-Education of the Negro" is a book originally published in 1933 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson. The thesis of Dr. Woodson's book is that blacks of his day were being culturally indoctrinated, rather than taught, in American schools. This conditioning, he claims, causes blacks to become dependent and to seek out inferior places in the greater society of which they are a part. He challenges his readers to become autodidacts and to "do for themselves", regardless of what they were taught.

Carter Goodwin Woodson was an African-American historian, author, journalist and the founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Woodson was one of the first scholars to study African-American history. A founder of The Journal of Negro History in 1915, Woodson has been cited as the father of black history. In February 1926 he launched the celebration of "Negro History Week"; it was the precursor of "Black History Month".

Good Book- Horribly Narrated

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The Narrator's almost sounded computer generated, very monotone. I have read this book many times and wanted to listen to it being read but found it extremely difficult to focus on the elements of the book because it was poorly narrated.

Any additional comments?

Great work

This book gives so much background to why we continue to be in the situation that we are in. Also, it gives a lot of insight into why we often sabotage ourselves and our people.

Horrible awful narration

I have read the book many years ago, so I know it is a great book and I really wanted to listen to it, but the narration was so mechanical it was really hard to listen to. I am sorry I picked this one. It literally took me weeks to get through it. 2 stars for overall because I know it is a good book, 1 for performance because I could not do a -3 or 4 , As for the story,as I've stated above, but you really have a hard time getting the storry with this narration. Find another narration I wish I had. this one was a waste.

True Black History

This is the my second time going through this book. The first time was 18 years ago when I was in college and it changed how I viewed my schooling. 18 years later this book answers why we are still facing race issues in America by looking at the foundations laid prior to bring written in the 1930s. This is a must read for all Educators and Historians.

Excellent read.

The reader made the text come alive. I like audio that come across as story telling and this one did. I enjoyed the reader voice very much.
