Publisher's summary

In this pioneering contribution to the emerging men's movement, Robert Moore, a Jungian psychoanalyst and Douglas Gillette, a mythologist, examine the inner King - one of the four archetypes on the male psyche. The inner King integrates power and nurturing, firmness and caring, courage and creativity, self-affirmation and self-sacrifice. From his central position between the world of imagination and the world of action, the King within challenges every man to take up his own scepter, to dream and to make them come true. The King Within both responds to the needs being formulated by the men's movement and addresses the larger questions of male psychology.

profoundly good-bad,entertaining: Don't miss it

Awesome narration. Useful, often bizarre, frequently laugh-out-loud, content. Highly recommended! Background in psychology will help appreciate more. The King framework here creates useful heuristics to guide action and introspection, I might suggest 'intentional change theory' as a supplement

Very Enlightening book for men

Very good and interesting concepts about men’s role in society and how to develop one’s masculinity in a “generative” and healthy way!

A little fast paced but good

Interesting concepts. I'd be interested to see more updated or later editions of this though.

much needed read

I really enjoyed listening to this book. This is an excellent framework in understanding and accessing the real male psyhe. I believe today more than ever, a man must develop his real self in order to provide, protect, pro create and serve his community and the world at large. first, though we must access the king within. This was a brilliant teaching.

Eye opening book! Highly recommended.

I heard about this book through Elliott Hulse, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The king within shows men that it is their birthright to become an axis mundi, to become the generative man!
I am recommending this book to all my bros that want to step it up.

Excellent book on heart and intentions

This book really hit a heart and spiritual connection with a force to be on science religion and ideas. And it shows that we have all the best intentions if we were to just choose to. It really reminded me of another book from Jordan Peterson the 12 rules for life.

Great starting point

Really good stuff. I see a lot of the problems mentioned in myself and now I know what I need to fix and more or less how to do it. Although, it will take much effort on my part. Makes me want to read the unabridged version for more insight on the ideas

Very informative hyperbole

It can take a while to sift through some of the psychological principles here but the message at the center of it all is sound, and also only 1/4 of the whole message, which is unfortunately a book that audible doesn’t have.
