Publisher's Summary

Dogs are the most social animals on the planet, second only to humans in their ability to read and understand emotion. Even chimps and bonobos, our closest genetic relatives, are no match for dogs when it comes to social cognition.
Jennifer Arnold understands this better than anyone, having spent the past 25 years training service dogs for people with disabilities at Canine Assistants. She is a pioneer in the emerging field of "bond-based" dog training, and her methods have overturned the conventional wisdom, which holds that dogs must learn to obey external cues like "sit", "stay", and "heel." In contrast, Arnold's groundbreaking methodology, bond-based choice teaching, rests on the belief that dogs are social learners, and they can be taught to make choices and interpret what we want from them, as opposed to simply following commands.

I Read 6 times so far I haven't got it all yet

Would you listen to Love Is All You Need again? Why?

I listen to her while I'm exercising dogs now.Ms. Arnold understands the central key factor in "OFF THE CHARTS" dog handling and canine Psych.applied to educating a innovative problem solving animal. In this book she eloquently articulates a sort of HOLY GRAIL OF DOG PARTNER "HOW TO"She explains, VIVIDLY that readily available ingredient, essential for long term success (THAT MEANS STAYING ALIVE) in that Human+Therapy Dog team. After 48 years of successful dog handling and training dozens of extraordinary animals, Im pursuing a 2nd PhD, this one in Canine/Human studies. After "reading" this book, it could be; that the final revelation I've been hoping to put into words..... is already here, in this book. Written succinctly. Jennifer is a fantastic narrator for her own book, displaying an "audio persona" better than 80% of the Audio books I've heard. A personal, semi-spiritual journey. Backed by current science from functional MRI on dogs and humans. Then tells you what it felt to her like, going to a version of hell and being retrieved. And how you too might help a team, or yourself if ever in similar circumstance. A telling unselfconsciously of a struggle we all have one way or other.Real life authenticity shines on it's own. This is a chronicle of a well spent life, on a calling more than a career. It's also a journey that defines a paradigm shift in creating long lasting Therapy dog+Handler teamsThis book is scientific, guaranteed! And so much more than that. I thought I was some kind of dog handler, but HAD I MISSED THIS BOOK.... I'd be a mile behind the real pack.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

SHE LIVED IT! And then illustrates the essence, shows us a cutting edge blueprint of a type of canine handling that no doubt will bring quality of life to 10's of thousands. It will likely turn out to be in my back pocket all coffee and blood stained as I try to become the best trainer that resides somewhere in me. I don't think I could have ever got there without knowing what in here.

Which scene was your favorite?

Date Nite. and the many 1st person descriptions and vignettes. But it ends bigger than SPLITTING THE ATOM,. so I think the end when she ties it all together and hits the home run ball out of the park.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

yes

Any additional comments?

Lets see after my long life,, if, now that I need a Medical Service dog, I can i accomplish 1/20th of what she writes about here.THAT SURE WOULD BE, FUN.
