A Spookums Dream

** I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest review **
This audiobook is a neat collection of spooky ghost & paranormal related stories at its core. Its a fun listen with a lot of interesting stories that I had no idea about.
The narration by Martin James is passable. My gripe with his narration is that he's an up-speaker but doesn't change it up. Its incredibly easy to zone out with the narration and miss something in the story. I would recommend that Martin would try to show more inflection in his reads. You're reading a book about creepy, spooky and paranormal related stories. Not the daily newspaper or speech at an office.
I'm not saying to go all spooky voice for 3-4 hours, but just try to shake up your narrations. It's easy to fall asleep to this read when it should be keeping me awake all night.

I would gladly recommend this audiobook.

Good collection of paranormal stories

As a fan of all things haunting, I really enjoyed these brief looks into paranormal stories. As typical with collections like these some are well known and others are less. I was about 50/50 which means I need to brush up more on my stories. I like how some were old and others were more recent. While I watch their shows, I wasn’t super excited that Ghost Adventures or TAPS evidence was cited. Don’t really believe reality shows provide any credible evidence, regardless of how entertaining they are.
In general this was a good mix of paranormal stories. The stories span a long enough time that some of the more recent stories involve places you can still go visit, prices are even offered for some of those locations. There were a few like Amityville and Winchester House, which while interesting, have been documented so many times I feel like adding them to a collection is unnecessary. As with any collection, you don't get enough of the stories you really like and I'm now on to do my own research.
The narrator did a good job. I didn’t notice the robotic tone others did and listened to him quite happily. Since this is told as a matter of fact story and doesn’t involve characters I was quite happy with the narration.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Big Title, Tiny Book

This is a small collection of mediocre stories that are neither "horrifying" nor "baffling".

The prose is sloppily written with several grammatical errors and a few instances where the author seems to have a weak understanding of the word she is using.

Narration is equally mediocre with several glaring missteps in pronunciation and inattention to the period as a full stop.

Waste of time and money.

Sounds like a robot reading

I listened to a half hour and just had to stop. The reader sounds like a robot. The stories are read with no normal inflection, which might make him sound human and like you were listening to a good story. There is absolutely no effort made to pull you into the story as skilled performers can do. Complete bummer because I love a good ghost story.

Horrible Narration

Who taught this guy how to read? It sounds like a robot is narrating. Can’t listen because he’s making my ears bleed. Returning & deleting from my device

Pick a different book.

This was pitiful.
Writing okay, at best. Tired at worst. just tired.
And the narrator, is probably a nice enough fellow, but his voice borders on migraine inducing.
Like a drill.
So yeah, pick a different book.

Narrator is a robot.

If the narrator is an actual person, they sure fooled me. Most robotic voice that's so distracting it makes the stories hard to enjoy. Couldn't make it past a half hour.

Eh, so so

Stories are good. But I've heard better narrations from random text to speech program bots.
