Publisher's summary

Born in a prison and removed from his drug-dependent mother, rejection is all that 7-year-old Alex knows.

When Cathy is asked to foster little Alex, aged seven, her immediate reaction is: Why can't he stay with his present carers for the last month? He's already had many moves since coming into care as a toddler and he'll only be with her a short while before he goes to live with his permanent adoptive family. But the present carers are expecting a baby and the foster mother isn't coping, so Alex goes to live with Cathy.

He settles easily and is very much looking forward to having a forever family of his own. The introductions and move to his adoptive family go well. But Alex is only with them for a week when problems begin. What happens next is both shocking and upsetting, and calls into question the whole adoption process.

Heart breaking but could not quit reading.

A great listen from the minute the book started. Definitely recommend. Tugs at the heart strings.

Another excellent read

This is another wonderful book about a little boy who so desperately wants a family to call his own. I experienced the same emotions of anger frustration and sadness along with Cathy and little Alex as they struggled to come to terms with the failure of that first adoption... As the reader looking in, it seemed obvious to me that it wouldn't work. Rosemary and Edward were too formal in their manner. They just couldn't relate to a child like Alex. I cheered for everyone when the second placement worked out so well. Alex had a long hard road ahead of him, and I'm glad things worked out so well for all of them.

Cathy Glass tells this story in the same engrossing style she does all her others. I was hooked from the first page and once again felt like I knew her and her family a little more.

pretty good

This one was a bit harder to get through The storyline wasn't as exciting or moving as most of her books. I had trouble loving this one It's still good but lacked suspense and emotion.
