Publisher's summary

Kay Hooper’s flair for storytelling and her broad mastery of genre are apparent in her electrifying novels. Her many works include modern and historical romances, fantasies, mysteries, gothic novels, and, like Out of the Shadows, suspense thrillers featuring psychic ability.

The small, friendly town of Gladstone, Tennessee seems the ideal place to raise a family - until two teenagers are found tortured to death. Sheriff Miranda Knight will do anything to make her small town safe again, even if it means calling in Noah Bishop, the FBI’s psychic profiler. The last time she and Noah combined their psychic powers, she was almost destroyed. Now she must learn to trust him again, or she will most certainly die at the hands of the monster who’s stalking her town.

Narrator C.J. Critt breathes life into the beautiful psychic sheriff with paranormal powers and transforms this exciting blend of romance, mystery, and suspense into an exciting listening experience.

Yuck.

I am a very cheap person. I start the review with this revelation because I want you to KNOW that I have only walked away from handful of the books I've purchased.

Out of the Shadows is one of them.

It reads like it was written by a high school student. The style is clumsy and uneven and the plot is clunky, creaky and trite -- all at the same time.

IF you find "It was a dark and stormy night" to be a sample of high literature...this is the one for you.

A terrible waste of a credit.

From the first read is to love Hooper thriller.

I will be honest. Hooper's romances left me bored. Reading her paranormal thrillers left me stoked and looking for more. Always a good read.

Great Story, Horrible Narration

What made the experience of listening to Out of the Shadows the most enjoyable?

The end of it. The narrator was just horrible.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Out of the Shadows?

Bishop coming up over the hill into Gladstone. Makes me smile.

Would you be willing to try another one of C. J. Critt’s performances?

Not if i can help it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The interplay among Bishop's team is always good. These books (despite their usually depressing subject matter) usually make me smile.

the lip smacking drove me crazy.

story good. narrator's acting is good, but you can hear every swallow, lip smack and basically every wet mouth noise. if that doesn't bother you, then it was a good audiobook.

Male voices could have been better.

The main male character sounds like a whiney teenage boy. Female voices are good.

Part of excellent series

This book is part of Bishop series. Medical research shows that there's a lot we don't know about our brains and how they work.
The question that humans used to need sharper senses or more senses to survive is a theory that sciencists may be able to explore/identify. This is one explanation of what we call extra sensory perception that we can understand. I love that author's plots are clever use of "what if" this were true.

However the narrator's voice can be so overpowering that I had to go back and replay sections of the story.

I'm listening to the series again and recommend it.

great story, horrible narrator

I was a fan of this book when I first read it in paperback. The narrator was so bad. she has some kind of odd breathing pattern and pauses at odd moments. The only thing that saves this horrible narration is the story.

Could have been much shorter

I started out liking the book and the narration was great. Then the same parts of the story were told over and over. It was ridiculous how many times I heard the same thing. It could have been a couple hours shorter and I would have enjoyed it more.

The start of a fascinating series

As a lover of mysteries and the Paranormal, this series has me excited for all the possibilities to come. I really enjoyed both the MC'S as well as their tragic backstory with a second chance for an HEA.
