Publisher's summary

Welcome to The Isle.

Lily Locke has never believed in witches and wizards, ghosts and magic, shifters and vampires - especially cute blonde vamps with blood-intolerance issues. A rising star at a hotshot marketing agency in Minneapolis, Minnesota, all Lily knows is that she's a PowerPoint guru, an Excel ninja, and a coffee-maker extraordinaire. Not to mention she's next in line for a huge promotion.

All that changes when Lily's assistant delivers a strange quiz to her, one titled A Magical Assessment for Normal Folks. With it comes the promise of a land she's never known existed. A land where Lily not only discovers her biological family for the first time, but a place where she can make a difference, change lives, and step into the role she's destined to fulfill.

But first, Lily must admit she's a witch. Then, she has to acknowledge that the tall, dark, and mysterious man who offers his help is strictly focused on business...at least, for now. When a body turns up dead and the next target is Lily, she must trust her powers and accept the help of her newfound friends. Otherwise, she'll never survive the trials of the magical island tucked far, far away in the frigid waters of Lake Superior.

Fantastic

Great story. Excellent story weaving. Perfect pacing. The narrator is superb with wonderful inflection that isn’t over the top but not the least robotic. So glad I found this series!

Watered Down Stephanie Plum Plot

This reads like a preteen fantasy mystery. All of the adult women in this book behave like giddy school girls, hyper focused on the protagonist's love interest aptly named Ranger X.
None of the interesting mysteries or questions get answered in this volume

Books are just ok.

I struggled with the narrator.
I went ahead and purchase the second book. It is a struggle to get through as well.
The books are ok otherwise. Not sure I will finish the series.

Easy fun listening

An easy fun story about a witch discovering her family and a world foreign to her. The tone is light and easy, making it a great book to listen to on the go.
Enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the growing mystery. Will definitely continue the series.

Gina wins again!

witches, magic, humor, suspense, murder

Another great fun book from Gina LaManna! I saw it and had to have it. Quite different in theme from the others except the humor is right there. Witches and magic sort of on Lake Superior's north shore, or something. Complete with a new found family of oddballs, a curmudgeonly instructor, a hot protector known only as Ranger X, and a whole lot more. Loved it!
The audio performance is by Wendy Tremont King who really nails it!
Alerted to it as Whispersync on the cheap by BookGorilla.

Great!

There is just so much potential here and so many avenues that this story idea can take to this just has to become a series.
I know that there are witchy books in abundance, some good and some not so good, but this one's particular concept is one of the better ones and I loved it.
The story is absolutely brilliant with twists and turns, magic, romance, a heroine, crazy (but very loving and caring) family members, hunks - some good and some bad, friends, a grumpy, old tutor and of course a villain - and so many chuckles.
So, we have a young, unattached lady by the name of Lily Locke who doesn't know that she is in fact a witch. She doesn't even believe in them. She works her butt off in an advertising agency and one day things really go wrong for her with the strangest things happening in her presentation even though these things didn't happen in any of the many practices she had done before. And she loses her job.
Needless to say she is made aware that she is a witch by two of her aunts and then whipped off to a witchy island where we meet two of her cousins, her grandmother, a tutor, the guy in charge of safety of the island and a few other characters. These characters and what they get up to are brilliantly woven together is a light, humerous, easy to listen to story.
I've never heard of the term 'Mixology' before but it apparently means the study of mixing various ingredients to make a potion of sorts. This is what I understand about it from the story and this is to be Lily's forte and special ability.
The narration by Wendy Tremont King was really good. She has a really interesting voice and knows how to use it.
Gina LaManna has written another hit and I am very sure that you will love it as much I I have.
